A dedicated public servant and lifelong champion of mental health, Governor Richard J. Codey spent more than 50 years in the New Jersey legislature fighting to ensure that every person — regardless of background — had access to compassionate, quality mental health care.
His legacy lives on through the Codey Fund for Mental Health, the organizations it supports, and the countless New Jerseyans whose lives were changed by his advocacy. This outing is a celebration of that legacy.
Our Mission
Playing for a Greater Purpose
All proceeds from this outing benefit the Codey Fund for Mental Health — a nonprofit founded by Governor Richard and Mary Jo Codey dedicated to ensuring compassionate, quality mental health care is accessible to all New Jerseyans.
The Fund works to award grants to impactful New Jersey organizations, combat the stigma surrounding mental illness, and promote public awareness and education. Thanks to the Codeys' advocacy, New Jersey became the first state in the nation to require screening of all new mothers for postpartum depression.

Going Undercover As chairman of the Senate Health Committee, Governor Codey went undercover inside Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital to expose deplorable conditions facing patients. His investigation led directly to stricter hiring practices and mandatory criminal background checks for all psychiatric hospital employees across New Jersey. |

A National First Because of Governor Codey's tireless advocacy around childbirth and mental illness, New Jersey became the first state in the nation to require that all new mothers be screened for postpartum depression before leaving the hospital — a law that has since saved countless lives. |

$200 Million for Housing As Governor, his first official act was to establish a Task Force to reform New Jersey's mental health system. He signed legislation allocating $200 million for housing units dedicated to individuals living with mental illness. |
