Creating a Lasting Impact—Thanks to You!

Greetings!

As many of you know, Ascencia 18th Annual Gala was held on Saturday, April 11. We are so grateful for everyone who sponsored, donated, bid, and attended our event. I am excited to share that it was our most successful gala of the past 5 years!

Thanks to you, our generous supporters, we exceeded our goal, and $408,000 was raised to help fund our life-saving services.

Vital donations like these is what allows us to comprehensively address the situations that the unhoused adults and children who come through Ascencia’s doors have experienced. When clients begin receiving services, we directly apply your support by providing them with skills and practical solutions needed to deal with the stressors they must navigate while becoming self-sufficient again.

Due to your care and generosity, the individuals that Ascencia serves can develop the tools needed to manage their lives and move forward into independence and stability. We regularly witness these transformations, and if you read our newsletters or follow us on social media, you know how beautiful they are.

Ascencia’s tried and true model works, and we wish to continue to do what is efficient and effective. Private sources of funding are frankly crucial for Ascencia at this juncture. Unhoused people are counting on their community and our collective humanity. This year requires a call to action, and this is it.

Thank you for caring about the tremendous effort the business of ending homelessness for people takes. I speak for all of us at Ascencia and especially our clients when I say we are truly grateful for you.

Gratefully,

20 Years of Supporting Ascencia

Throughout this year, we will be sharing quotes from our community that has been supporting us and keeping our organization running for two decades.

We are so grateful to every individual, family, community organization, and business that have believed in our mission and dedicated time or resources to help us achieve it.

"The day I opened my business, I knew I wanted to identify a special cause to support in my community. I asked the city to guide me to the most needed and the most vulnerable and they connected me with the homeless services. Later when I got a call from PATH founder Claire Orr, who asked if I wanted to co-chair the board of this wonderful new organization providing homeless services in Glendale. I said yes, and spent the next 13 years on their board.

We live in a world where homelessness is something that could happen to absolutely anyone for a myriad of reasons. Homelessness is a real, universal issue, and working with Ascencia allowed me to see and understand this.

Since then, even after leaving the board, I’ve been inspired to continue supporting them because of the amazing results of their work. I see how collaboration between organizations like Ascencia, the local government, and the community allows them to actualize their mission and bring real, visible change. I’m proud to be a fan and supporter of Ascencia!"

Leryoia's Journey Home

While many teenagers spend their days thinking about prom or learning to drive, others are navigating realities far more uncertain. That was the case for our client, Leryoia.

Instead of imagining her prom dress or studying for her driving test, Leryoia’s homelife as a teen wound up defining six pivotal years of her life.

As a young person, she experienced years of housing instability without the consistent support that many rely on. Like so many children experiencing homelessness, the challenges she faced followed her into adulthood. An already vulnerable population, children are primed for trauma when facing homelessness, and stand at an increased risk of incarceration, substance abuse, assault, and worst.

For nearly four years, Leryoia searched for the support that could at minimum allow her to gain some footing, in the end she found much more…

With support from our ICMS team, Leryoia was able to secure a safe, stable one-bedroom apartment that meets her needs as a new parent and offers space to build a future. What was once uncertainty is now stability. What was once survival is now possibility.

Today, Leryoia lives with her partner and newborn child in a place they can call home. With the continuous care of her case manager and a community that showed up for her, she now has the foundation to create the kind of future she once couldn’t imagine. Leryoia remains deeply grateful to Ascencia’s staff, supporters, and donors who helped her regain control of her life. Her story proves that while a family is not always guaranteed, a community can be found anywhere.

Volunteer Appreciation: Shoutout to the STARS at Macy's

This week is Volunteer Appreciation Week, and we wanted to give a huge thank you to the Glendale Galleria Macy’s star team for coming together to collect. organize, and donate new and gently used clothing, including shoes, shirts, and suits (with extra pieces generously contributed by their manager, Jon). These items will help support clients accessing our services as they prepare for interviews, employment and take meaningful steps toward stability.

From packing donations to connecting with Ascencia staff, this project was a reminder of what community care looks like in action. We’re especially grateful for this team’s ongoing commitment as their contributions evolve to meet the needs of our community.
