Plato wrote “The state is the individual writ large,” meaning the character of a nation is the character of all the individuals who make up that nation. In America, we can make that true in the best way, if the best of us – YOU – step up like you have in the past.

At this fraught moment in world history, thank God we have President Biden leading us – and thank God for you, your heart, and your activism, which are responsible for that! The President continues to let compassion, courage, and humanity guide a nuanced policy, threading every needle. He fully backs Israel’s self-defense while also issuing constant demands for Israel to do all in its power to avoid killing civilians in Gaza. He continues our steady support of Ukraine in its war for survival, while also communicating on a daily basis American leadership in the Middle East crisis. He warns of the dangerous power vacuum Republican chaos is causing in the House, while also avoiding taking a heavy hand that could provoke backlash.

The alternative is grim. Trump, without nuance, brain, or heart, has erred in every possible direction. He has attacked Israel and called Hezbollah “smart.” He has then reversed himself and called for a new, more extreme Muslim ban and deportations of students and anyone else who criticizes Israel. He would give Ukraine to Putin as a gift, and put the Russian army at NATO’s doorstep, inviting World War III. And he is the author of the chaos in the House that has rendered it comatose for 16 days and counting for the first time in history, paralyzing our government when we need it most.

Fortunately, we have you – and you have all of us. Let’s again acknowledge these are truly difficult times. We send love and hugs to everyone feeling too broken right now to volunteer. We fully support every measure of self-care you need. But for those of you who are ready now, and those who may find themselves ready soon… your beautiful heart is the best medicine that exists for this world’s sickness.

Here’s a first-hand re-cap of the 2023 Atlanta Pride Festival, from our own Julie Glade!

"You can’t beat Atlanta Pride! Nine amazing volunteers, a mix of Field Team 6 old hats and new trainees, shared a booth for two glorious days at the 2023 Atlanta Pride Festival (10/14-15).Together, we registered 32 Democrats and helped several dozens more with voting questions and reviews of their registration status. We met some very kind and interesting people: many older voters stopped to describe their experiences and the importance of voting; folks who relocated from Florida, no longer recognizing the state they grew up in; and several 18 year-olds and college students, excited to register and vote for the first time! The atmosphere was full of tolerance, respect, and joy; the experience, profoundly satisfying; and we all returned home feeling like we really made a difference. Happy Pride!"

ASKING THE UNIVERSE FOR NATIVE AMERICAN ARTISTS

When we were starting our postcarding program in 2021, we wanted them to be little pieces of art – something you'd want to put on the fridge at least, or maybe even frame and hang on the wall. We asked the universe. Shepard Fairey suddenly gave us the high sign to pull images from his portfolio to create a 9-image registration-specific postcard series. Then James McMullan reached out and created another series, then another. Then Deborah Aschheim created her voter portrait series. And so on... until over 1.2 million postcards to register new Democrats were sent out by amazing volunteers (and counting). And now, we are asking the universe again...

We know the registration hurdles for Native and Tribal populations are incredibly high. We want to overcome those hurdles in any way we can. Postcards and a Native American-specific Voterizer are how we are starting.

But in order to do that, we need to connect with one or more Native American artists so that we can create postcards for Indian Country. Are you one? Do you know one? Do you know someone who knows one? Please have the universe contact us HERE.
