SERVE & PARTICIPATE
YOU ARE INVITED TO SERVE

By Paul Schroeder

You are invited to participate in a meeting Sunday, September 18 at 9am in the staff workroom to help serve Altar Guild. Our group creates a warm and inviting place to worship and serve.

Thanks to our volunteers, we have been able to cover most of the needs over past two years, but we really look forward to expanding our numbers. Please consider attending this meeting to learn more about serving Altar Guild.
TIME TO TAKE A BREATH

Have you been holding your breath for two years? Join Sara Hirsch and each other beginning with a small stretch then quiet meditation in the Sanctuary each Tuesday beginning at 5:30pm. We provide chairs, but bring your mat if you prefer or a meditation pillow.

Stephen Main, our Minister of Music, will join us from time to time with his meditations on meditation. Face coverings recommended, but not required. Ahhhhh, just breathe. Contact Sara Hirsch at sara1.hirsch1@gmail.com

ANNOUNCEMENTS
POLLY JACKSON: CELEBRATION OF LIFE

Come celebrate Polly Jackson’s life and beautiful spirit on Saturday, August 27 from 1-4pm. Bring your dancing shoes to the Courtyard and Guild Hall. Polly wanted a party with music, singing, enjoying tasty food and drinks, dancing and sharing many happy memories.

We‘re making a scrapbook about Polly to collect memories and memorabilia. Polly touched so many of our lives, and many of us have had amazing experiences or adventures with her. If you have any memories you’d like to share, please write them down and bring them, perhaps along with little souvenirs of your experiences/adventures like photos, cards, notes, even ticket stubs or pressed flowers.
'THE CENTURION'

On Sunday, we helped celebrate the birthday of Dr. Melvin Donaldson as he turned 100 years old July 28. Still active, working with veterans, he wanted to be a doctor since he was 9 years old. When asked if he had a birthday party, he said, "I had a bunch of them." - Photo by Michael Barber
CONCERT UPDATE
CHRISTMAS IN JULY?
Early Christmas Concert Announcement

By Pat Leicher

We are excitedly looking forward to having our Christmas Concert and Reception live and in-person this year, barring something unforeseen. Those of you who have attended our concerts with full orchestra and choir during the nine pre-pandemic years know what a joyous occasion it is.

Rather than the first weekend in December as we have done in the past, the concerts will be held on Saturday, December 17 and Sunday, December 18 at 7PM.  We anticipate that the reception will be indoor/outdoor.

More details will be announced as they become available.

OAKLAND CLEANUP EVENT
Saturday, August 13, 9am to 12 noon

Come join Abundant Aid in cleaning up Oakland streets.

This August cleanup will take place in the neighborhood of City Team Turning Point, near Mills College. Turning Point is a transitional housing program for women and children in crisis, where key resources are given to help them achieve economic self-sufficiency. (See brochure below.)  They are located in a low-income neighborhood, where many of its residents are dependent on government aid.

The streets are often littered with alcohol bottles, cigarettes, food trash and old furniture. It will be nice to show the community that there are people who care for them and the environment where they live. It will also be a time of great fellowship and learning more about one of our mission partners, CityTeam.

After the clean up, there will be a short tour of Turning Point for those who are interested.

As there are limited street parking, carpools are highly encouraged. We will gather in the church parking lot and start off at 8.30am. Contact sweeling.chen@gmail.com
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matt. 5:16).
CHILDREN & YOUTH
HELPING HANDS

Elsa Wallway and Elliott Becker are two of a handful of middle school students who put together 65 hygiene packs this week for the shelter at CityTeam.

MEDIA
MEDIA MINISTRY SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
It Only LOOKS Complicated

The Media Ministry is growing, and we need your help to make it more successful. We are searching for volunteers who can commit 2 Sundays per month average to work during the 10am LIVE Worship service. Consistency is important as the team will come to rely on you.

All duties are performed while seated, and no heavy lifting.

No experience necessary, only an interest in making a good LIVE broadcast even better. Training provided for all positions;

1)    Camera Operator – Take direction from Michael as we broadcast worship services

2)    Audio Tech – Charge and deliver wireless microphones to worship participants, then follow the action on the soundboard in the back of the Sanctuary during worship

Additional jobs will be added as we grow.

Contact Michael Barber at Michael@PiedmontChurch.org, or see him after worship.
