A CALL FOR A PLAN BEFORE ANOTHER BORDER RESTRICTION EXTENSION
With the current expectation that the Canadian and U.S. governments are moving towards a further extension of the existing restrictions on cross border travel beyond June 21 and perhaps through July, the
North Country Chamber of Commerce
has been calling for a phased plan for returning to normalcy, with metrics and goals. We therefore greatly welcome the letter and press release below from Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and Congressman Brian Higgins, Co-Chairs of the Congressional Northern Border Caucus.
We continue to work with other partners on both sides of the border as well, and will carry on our advocacy for a more thoughtful and defined bi-national decision process.

GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES LOW-RISK YOUTH SPORTS CAN BEGIN ON JULY 6TH
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced low-risk youth sports for regions in phase three of reopening can begin on July 6th with up to two spectators allowed per child.
"New York State has been continuing to follow the data and the numbers on the COVID-19 virus and we are making really great progress with the lowest number of deaths and hospitalizations since this pandemic first began," Governor Cuomo said. "This is all good news, but our behavior is what's keeping these numbers down and the numbers can change in a week if we don't remain disciplined and follow the guidelines and protocols in place. We've been getting reports from all across the state of large gatherings, social distancing violations and people are not wearing masks - and we want to remind all individuals and businesses, especially bars and restaurants, that failure to follow the state's reopening rules and guidelines will result in serious consequences."

LAKE CHAMPLAIN SEA GRANT PROVIDING SIGNAGE FOR MARINAS
The Lake Champlain Sea Grant was able to secure funding to print signage for marinas on Lake Champlain and Lake George, to help educate recreational boaters about safety practices. A draft of the sign is shown here.
If you would like printed copies of the sign, they can provide them at no cost. They just need to know how many you need. They’ll be printed on corrugated yard election style signs (though we’ll provide you just with the signs, not the metal stands like election style signs have).
If you would like to sign up to receive some signs, please use this
Google form
