HOURS AT BORDER OUT-PORTS
|
"The reduced hours at the smaller crossings are understandable in light of the greatly reduced car traffic at these locations," states Garry Douglas, Chamber President. "With the current restrictions, allowing cross border travel only by individuals only for essential purposes, car movements are down 90% or more across the border. Importantly, the main crossing at Champlain remains fully operational and open 24/7, as does Chateaugay. Commuters and other essential travelers using these five ports outside of the reduced hours should instead use Champlain or Chateaugay."
Douglas also notes "that commercial traffic continues uninterrupted in both directions, maintaining important supply chains and shipping. And the truck movements in our corridor continue to be very strong across the border, as we work with our Quebec partners to help address questions by Quebec truckers and to point out that essential services for the drivers remain available. We also continue to work with our area hospitals and with U.S. and Canadian government leaders to support and facilitate the continued daily commutes by hundreds of Canadian nurses and health care personnel who are essential to the North Country health system."
