HANWASH has a Board of Directors, a Steering Committee and seven (7) Subcommittees made up of volunteers in several countries

who contribute their time in shaping and undertaking

the work that gets done inside and outside Haiti

Together with our great staff we are making a difference and changing lives.

For the next several months we will focus on a different

Subcommittee each month so that you, our supporters and

friends can learn more about our HANWASH.

The District 7020 Engagement Committee

Co-Chaired by Lindsey Cancino and Deborah Howell

As the host District for HANWASH, it is essential to the credibility of the program that Rotary International District 7020 be fully and effectively engaged, from senior leadership to its members at-large.

The D-7020 Engagement Subcommittee’s goal is to effectively engage all members of the district and build a model for engaging other districts in the HANWASH program initially regionally and then globally.

One of the committee's goals includes having different coordinators in each of District 7020's ten countries. We currently have coordinators in the Caymans, Bahamas, Haiti, Sint Maarten and Jamaica. A major effort of the District 7020 Engagment Subcommitee is the Adopt-a-Well program, which you can learn about more below.

Anyone can choose to sponsor a well in a community in Haiti!

Although clean water is just one part of our mission, it is a critical one, bringing great joy and tangible results to a commune. Sponsoring a well involves a donation of US$25,000 to cover the cost of engaging and training community members and building the well, but most importantly, following you donation the long-term operations and maintenance expenses are funded by the community itself, ensuring they have skin in the game. This is how we ensure that drinking water can be provided for years to come. Adopt a Well program co-chair Lindsey Cancino says, "building wells really shows Haitians that we care and that there is progress being made"!

HANWASH's efforts have primarily been in the commune of Cavaillon so far. Together with our financial supporters from around the Caribbean and North America, we have successfully funded 11 wells, with 5 of them delivered and operating and 6 more to be completed.

The first HANWASH well was in the community of Pakwa and was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Minneapolis Uptown.

Our goal is to bring the Adopt a Well program to all the communes in which we are working. Thank you to all our partners who have helped make these wells possible. We hope to add many more wells as we work towards our mission of safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene for everyone in Haiti.

N’importe qui peut choisir de parrainer un puits dans une communauté en Haïti !

Bien que l’eau potable ne soit qu’une partie de notre mission, elle est essentielle, apportant une grande joie et des résultats tangibles à une commune. Le parrainage d'un puits implique un don de 25 000 $ US pour couvrir les coûts d'engagement et de formation des membres de la communauté et de construction du puits, mais plus important encore, suite à votre don, les dépenses d'exploitation et d'entretien à long terme sont financées par la communauté elle-même, garantissant sa participation dans le jeu. C’est ainsi que nous garantissons que l’eau potable pourra être fournie pendant des années. Lindsey Cancino, co-président du programme "Adopt a Well", déclare : La construction de puits montre vraiment aux Haïtiens que nous nous soucions de nous et que des progrès sont réalisés!
