MEDICARE PROVIDERS ALERT
  
Medicare Reimbursement Change: National NASW issued  a new practice alert which informs clinical social work providers of the impending Medicare number changes for beneficiaries beginning April 1, 2018. http://www.socialworkers.org/assets/secured/documents/practice/Clinical/PRA-FL-45717.MedicareCodeChangesFL.pdf .   This change will impact reimbursement for clinical social workers who will need to provide new Medicare numbers on their claim forms in order to avoid payment denials.

LEGISLATIVE ACTION
 
State Budget : The Legislature continues to struggle to pass a state budget. The latest news is that the timing of a vote that was most recently set for the week of September 11th may be postponed to as late as October. We have also learned that the latest Democratic budget proposal cuts SAGA by 50%. Part of the Democratic House proposal is to raise the sales tax however this alone will not bring in sufficient revenue to protect core safety net and social service funding. It is also unclear if there are the votes in the Senate at this time for such a tax increase or if the Governor would sign such a budget. New revenues are critical to any meaningful protection and maintenance of Medicaid, key social services, and mental health & health funding. Please contact your state senator and state representative and urge them to include new revenues in the budget. Even if you have contacted them before it is time to do it again!
