Greetings Rotarians!
Happy June! Happy Summer Season in Michigan! Welcome to Rotary Fellowships Month!
Congratulations on a job well done! Congratulations to all our Rotarians, Club Officers, and Clubs in District 6360!! So many new ideas for operating our clubs and serving our communities have been explored this year! It’s been a truly remarkable recovery year – thanks to you and your hearts, hands, passions, imaginations, brilliance, boldness, courage and commitment to serving and caring!
Rotary International’s Rotary Action Plan is now in full swing! Many Clubs have ‘visioned’ and are excitedly trying out new ways to serve, celebrate Rotary, and grow. Visioning (brainstorming & strategic planning) is recommended every three years to invigorate and sustain action and maximize effectiveness! It’s a wise investment in a profitable future!
It’s been such a joy to be part of our District’s progress this year!! Each club is adapting to the needs and desires of a modern, rapidly changing society. Reaching out to new neighbors and tackling new neighborhood projects is enriching our clubs and enhancing our membership. New partnerships with other like-minded organizations are increasing our impact. Our club members are growing through serving in Rotary leadership roles, taking advantage of educational opportunities, and investing in incredible International Service experiences! Rotary has so much to offer and the rewards are immeasurable!
Now may be a good time for you to explore Rotary Fellowships! These are formed by Rotarians from across the world with specific interests in sports, hobbies, causes, almost any activity you can think of. Joining one of these groups often leads to new friendships, experiences, connections and life enrichment! Check out the list on: https://www.rotary.org/en/our-programs/more-fellowships.
Our lives are all enriched because we found ROTARY! Rotary is one of the greatest ideas ever imagined and remains such an important force for good in the world! I encourage you to keep sharing the sparkle and shimmer of ROTARY LOVE as you complete this amazing Rotary year, and prepare for even more flourishing in the next!
Much love always!
In Celebration,
Sharalyn Davis

Pop-up Points Matching Campaign for
The Rotary Foundation
Still Time to Participate!
Campaign Ends June 15, 2024
| |
There’s still time left for you to participate in our special Pop-Up Points Matching Campaign for The Rotary Foundation!
This points-matching program is for contributions to The Rotary Foundation’s SHARE program.
This campaign closes June 15, 2024.
Our District will match your individual donation to the Annual Fund-SHARE of The Rotary Foundation (TRF) with Foundation Recognition Points. We are able to match donations between $100 and $5,000.
A couple of important caveats for this campaign:
- Only contributions to TRF’s Annual Fund-SHARE program will be matched.
- Per TRF rules, points cannot be transferred to clubs – only to individual Rotarians.
- Per TRF rules, points do not count toward Major Donor recognition, but do count towards Paul Harris Fellow recognition.
- Here is how this matching program works:
- Make your contribution to TRF’s Annual Fund. Your donation may be online via Rotary Direct (using the RI website), or by check.
- Let us know you have made a contribution and request matching points.
- Please send a details of your contribution or a copy of your receipt.
- We will process your match and submit the matching information to The Rotary Foundation.
It’s that easy!
Why are we doing this? Because we believe in The Rotary Foundation, and all the good work made possible by The Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund!
And we want to encourage our Rotarians to support TRF’s Annual Fund. The more money that is donated to The Annual Fund, the more money comes back to our District to support local TRF grants!
Thank you in advance for supporting The Rotary Foundation! Your support makes everything possible!

Mental Health Steering Committee
Becomes a Committee
| |
Only nine months ago D6360 Mental Health Steering Committee met for the first-time. It was an exploratory committee that through its short course assumed various titles like; ‘steering committee’ and ‘task force’. It was formed in August 2023 in answer to RI President Gordon’s charge to bring Mental Health into Rotarian service projects:
“We can and will create the kind of world we want to live in:
one where we all have the chance to help and to seek help. We can do this by:
Erasing the stigma associated with caring about emotional well-being;
Raising awareness about mental health needs;
Working to improve access to mental health services”
R. Gordon R. McInally 2023-24 RI President
Mental Health is an enormous topic. It was the goal of the steering committee to narrow down concepts into relevant service projects, as well as being practical, for local clubs to incorporate into their own communities.
It was quite an honor when at D6360 Conference, District Governor Elect Mark Odland personally informed the Committee Chair that the Board of Directors was voting to sanction the Mental Health Steering Committee as an official D6360 Committee, and that Mark himself was putting the proposal forward! This is no light task. Sanctioning a new committee involves amending the Rotary District by-laws.
Mark later commented, “I have never seen a steering committee take hold as rapidly as Mental Health. I am supportive of your and this committee and know the work will continue to meet the needs of our members and the communities we serve. Nice work. Well done.”
Thank you, Mark and D6360 Board Members, for your support and encouragement of the work of the Mental Health Steering Committee. Thank you for sanctioning the task force to become a recognized committee within Rotary D6360.
The committee looks forward to building on the accomplishments and service projects that have been initiated.
Together, we will continue to Create Hope.

Exciting news! This Fall, plans are to pilot the Rotary Student Program in a virtual event across Zones 28, 30, 32 and 33! As a reminder, this program, which aligns students with professionals in dream careers, started with D6360 through the Rotary Club of St. Joseph-Benton Harbor in 2007 and now is global!
In the meantime, there will be opportunities to learn more about how to bring a viable service to students in your communities (while connecting with families) through training of the steps of setting up one-on-one reverse interviews or participating in virtual events led by the District. Our first event, where 7 clubs participated, was a huge success and we think we’re onto something.
If you would like to join the District Rotary Student Program Committee, please contact Founder & Chair, DGN, Jackie Huie, 269-930-1325 m, or email jhuie@johnsonrauhoff.com. For more information, visit www.rotarystudentprogram.org.

Rotary Youth Exchange Needs YOU!
Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) needs YOU!! Will you please consider hosting a student next year??
We still have one student to place with a host family for the fall. Students arrive in August and spend the school year with one – two families hosted by your Rotary Club. We are looking for a loving host family for Alston, a student from Taiwan. Alston speaks good English as he’s had 7 years English and is a member of the Advanced English Club at his high school. He plays on a basketball team, plays soccer, likes table tennis, and swimming.
Host Families do NOT need to be Rotarians!! If you know of a family that would be willing to host Alson, please let Margie Haas, 269-838-3392, or email haasmargie@gmail.com. The District Rotary Youth Exchange Committee is reorganizing for 2024-25 school year. If you would like to be on the committee, please let Margie know!! The District RYE Committee for 2024-25 will meet regularly via Zoom.

Lessons in Rotary Geography
- Were you aware that the Rotary Club of Reno, Nevada, is farther west than the Rotary Club of Los Angeles, California?
- Would you guess that the meetings of the Rotary Club of Portland, Maine, are farther south than those of the clubs in London, England?
- Can you imagine that the Pensacola, Florida, Rotary Club is west of the Detroit, Michigan, club? • It's a fact that the Cairo, Illinois, Rotary Club is south of Richmond, Virginia.
- There are 69 Rotary clubs with the word "Tokyo" in their club names. • The Rotary Club of Nome, Alaska, lies west of the club in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the Santiago, Chile, club is located east of the Rotary Club of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
- Rotary geographers will know that virtually every Rotary club meeting in Australia is east of the Hong Kong Rotary Club.
- What do the Rotary clubs of Quito, Ecuador, Libreville, Gabon, Singapore, and Kampala, Uganda, have in common? You guessed right if you said they all meet approximately on the equator.
There are many interesting relationships and things to learn as you become acquainted with the approximately 1.2 million Rotarians in more than 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
-
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
-
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
-
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
-
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
