2021 Pledge Campaign Continues

It's a New Day at Piedmont Community Church

And, while this era is very exciting, you might be feeling a bit overwhelmed.

That’s why, together, we’re moving Forward in Faith.

Faith that the ministry God called us to more than 100 years ago is more vital than ever.

Faith that our leadership will continue to inspire us to serve one another and our global community in new and impactful ways.

Faith that we as individuals, and as one body, will realize lives of goodness, beauty, strength and peace.

Your financial pledge to the 2021 campaign, Forward in Faith, represents more than an offering. It’s a promise to support your church beyond the challenges of the current day.

To provide the resources and energy needed to deliver God’s message of unconditional love and grace at a time when it’s needed most. To faithfully serve God and one another.

When you participate in the 2021 Pledge Campaign, your commitment enables everything we experience at Piedmont Church including:

• Worship & Administrative Staff
• Christian Education
• Pastoral Care
• Music
• Media
• Facilities Maintenance
• Local and Worldwide Missions
• Social Outreach Programs
This year has brought unprecedented challenges to our community and our world, and we know that you may be facing new hardships. Recognizing this new reality, we want you to know that your ongoing financial support is deeply appreciated.

Our church is also facing new challenges as we go through a major transition. Your gift helps ensure our ministry and programs continue.

For guidance on what you might contribute, we ask that you prayerfully consider pledging at least 5% of your after-tax income. And, if possible,
please consider increasing your gift over last year.

Above all, please know that whatever you choose to give is tremendously
appreciated. We’ve included a giving chart to help you determine your support level for the church in 2021.

Please return your pledge card, or pledge online, before October 30.

From a grateful church, we acknowledge and appreciate your continued
commitment to our ministry.

Your 2021 Stewardship Committee,

Dani Montague, Susan Butenhoff, Paul Schroeder, Lisa Fuller,
Steven Thorne and Dr. Don Ashburn

NEWS
Task Force To Explore Clergy Compensation Disclosure

By Jan Wolfe, Piedmont Church President

In an effort to explore the potential for increased transparency in our church’s finances, seven members of the Board of Trustees have been called to form a task force. Their charge is to consider the possibility of changing the church’s current policy regarding non-disclosure of minister’s salaries and compensation.

There are many issues to be considered, including laws and statutes of the State of California, before the recommendation is made to the Board of Trustees for a vote in 2021.

As Head of Staff through December, Dr. Don Ashburn will be working with the task force, as will Transitional Minister Dr. Steve Schibsted when he joins us January 1.
Limited, Outdoor Service Sunday

The Piedmont Community Church Reopening Taskforce has been working to comply with Alameda County Covid-19 public health officer orders. We are currently allowed to have limited outdoor services with a maximum of 25 total people in our courtyard.

We will provide an outdoor service this Sunday, October 25. The service will begin at 10:30 AM, but you will need to arrive at least 15 minutes early so you can go through our Covid-19 entrance procedures.

Since we are limited to 25, including clergy and staff, you MUST reserve your space in advance by filling out the linked registration form below. We will create a list of attendees. If you are not on the list you will not be admitted to the service.

PLEASE RESPOND BY NOON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24.

You must wear a mask at all times and stay socially distanced.

When you arrive you will be asked the following questions:

1. Within the last 10 days have you been diagnosed with COVID-19 or had a test confirming you have the virus?

2. Do you live in the same household with, or have you had close contact* in the past 14 days with someone who has been in isolation for COVID-19 or had a test confirming they have the virus?

*“Close contact” is defined as living in the same house, being an intimate partner, being a caregiver, or being within 6 feet of an individual for longer than 15 minutes who has COVID-19.

3. Have you had any one or more of these symptoms today or within the past 24 hours, which is new or not explained by a reason other than possibly having COVID-19? • Fever, Chills, or Repeated Shaking/Shivering • Cough • Sore Throat • Shortness of Breath, Difficulty Breathing • Feeling Unusually Weak or Fatigued • Loss of Taste or Smell • Muscle pain • Headache • Runny or congested nose • Diarrhea • Nausea and vomiting

If you answer YES to any of the above questions, you will be required to leave.

Consider bringing an umbrella and water to drink because it can be very hot and sunny in the courtyard.

We are all looking forward to some normal in our lives. So, we’re trying our best to provide it, while keeping each other safe by complying with county rules, which could change at any time.

CHILDREN & YOUTH
It’s Shoebox Time

We are participating in Operation Christmas Child!  Samaritan’s Purse collects Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes filled with toys and other fun items and delivers them to children in need around the world in partnership with local churches.

This year, you can participate in two ways.

1.    You can build a shoebox online by going to Build a shoebox online.   With a $25 donation you can click through options to build a shoebox that will be packed by Operation Christmas Child volunteers.

2.    You can pack your own shoebox and we will take them to the local collection center.  We have preprinted shoeboxes you can fill, or you can use your own.

How to Fill a Shoebox:

-       Get a standard size shoebox to pack or use a preprinted box (Leslie will be distributing boxes on Saturday October 24 from 11am – 12pm at the bottom of the steps on Highland Way, or you can email [email protected] for arrangements for preprinted boxes)

-       Select a quality “WOW” item such as a doll, stuffed animal, soccer ball with pump.

-       Add toys such as toy cars, jump ropes, yo-yos etc.

-       Other items to add:  School supplies (pens, pencils paper), Accessories (socks, sunglasses, jewelry), Non-liquid Hygiene items (toothbrushes, bar soap, combs)

-       A letter to the child

-       Do not include candy, toothpaste, gum, used or damaged items, war related items, seeds, food, liquids or lotions, medicine, breakable items, aerosol cans)

Shoeboxes must be completed by November 15

Contact Leslie at [email protected] to arrange a time to drop off your shoeboxes at church, or to have them picked up at your home. You can also drop off at a local drop off location.
Welcome to our Sunday school program, Digging into Foundations of Faith.

We will be learning what it means to be a Christian. We will explore what the Bible reveals about who God is and how God sees us, how we fit in God’s family, and how we live the Christian life. As we study core concepts of Christianity, we will gain a solid framework for our own relationship with Jesus.

Some of the lessons include: Moses and the Burning Bush (Exodus 3:1-4:17), God Tells Job About His Creation (Job 38-39; Psalm 8), and Jesus Feeds 5,000 (Matthew 14:13-21).

Please look for the links to weekly lessons in The Messenger and in Leslie's weekly emails.
