Nitrogen Training Recap

YOWA hosted “Nitrogen and the Effect on Onsite Wastewater Systems” on June 25, 2024. More than 40 professionals were in attendance at this full-day, in-person training, held at the UMASS Mt. Ida Campus in Newton, MA.


The program featured speakers from MassDEP, MASSTC, and Atlantic Solutions and included presentations on the nitrogen cycle, nitrogen loading and limitations, and Title 5 updates and watershed permitting.

Woodford Folk Festival's Decentralized Engineered Water Cycle

NOWRA’s Summer 2024 Onsite Journal contained an article about the Australian Woodford Folk Festival and their decentralized engineered water cycle at the Woodfordia site, highlighting the wastewater treatment system designed for the festival, a large music event, attended by approximately 130,000 people over six days.

SepticSmart Week Recap

Through a series of emails and social posts, YOWA participated enthusiastically in the U.S. EPA’s nationwide SepticSmart Week activities. Using a focus on the importance of proper maintenance of an onsite system, YOWA sent out two email messages and created ten posts on its LinkedIn page. These all spoke about how our members should work with their residents and customers to provide education about the importance of protecting the environment and public health by properly caring for onsite wastewater systems of all types.
