YREA winter 2024 news & views

The environmental down side of online shopping

Since the pandemic Canadians have increased their online shopping by 66% while nearly 40% of those purchases are returned & end up in liquidation centres or landfills, creating an enormous carbon footprint. Before you order:

1. Read the specs & details to make sure the product suits your needs.

2. Measure yourself to ensure you order the correct size.

3. Choose standard delivery instead of next-day which can decrease carbon emissions by 30%.

4. Buy second hand, refurbished or upcycled.

Mexico defies Monsanto & US bullying

YREA is very concerned that Canada has shamefully joined the USA in challenging Mexico’s ban on GM corn & glyphosate. We applaud Mexico for its commitment to protect their heritage corn & the health of its people by standing up to Monsanto/ Bayer, unlike Canada that bends to the will of pesticde lobby group CropLife at every turn. Free trade should not trump safeguarding Mexico's food sovereignty. Canada needs to withdraw this appalling challenge and instead follow Mexico's stellar example. Learn more
