July YSA Meeting & Art Demonstration

About Mary

ARTIST STATEMENT

Patterns, the interwoven designs in nature and life are recurring themes in my work. I choose the vibrancy and fluidity of watercolor to portray my view of these overlays, repetitions, and negative areas. I counterbalance strong design and direction with delicacy of line and color.

BIOGRAPHY

I owned a design business specializing in graphics, fine arts and interiors. I was an Illustrator and Graphics Coordinator for Kawasaki Motors in Southern California, and have taught classes in Watercolor and Interior Design through a college and two school districts.

I studied art at the University of Alaska and Gavilan College. I’ve been lucky to paint with many well know artists including Steven Quiller, Dale Laitinen, Barbara Nechis, Don Getz, and John Salminen.

My work was featured at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara as well as several private, one-woman shows in various galleries.

I was lucky to live in Alaska and now near Yosemite National Park where I enjoy painting the scenery, wildlife, fish and flowers.

This hybrid session at the Sierra Senior Center 49111 Cinder Lane, Oakhurst or on Zoom. It can be watched or re-watched for up to a month.

Watercolor Journaling

by Mary Harsh

Saturday, July 15th at 10 am

This will be a Hybrid Session at the Senior Center or on Zoom

WATERCOLOR JOURNALING is a quick and easy way to capture a place and moment in time. Journals are meant to be sketched and painted quickly, not looking for perfection but producing a fast visual reminder of something you found interesting. Perfect for Plein Air painting. No lugging around a heavy easel and equipment.

Supplies are simple. I use an American Journey watercolor journal from Cheap Joes Artstuff 140# cold press 9x12, but you can use any journal with good heavy watercolor paper. Sketching is done with a Sharpie fine or ultra fine tip permanent marker (Yes you sketch right off the bat with ink!) A small pallet with your favorite colors, brushes and you’re ready!

Cost: only $10 members • $15 Non-Members
