“Making a Difference”

Doing Something Good &
Building successful community involvement...

West Contra Costa Youth Service Bureau Staff was asked by former consumer to participate in his after-school project by joining him in cleaning up the Shields-Reid Neighborhood Park and painting a mural that he and his peers help design. WCCYSB is mission and values are grounded in helping others and making a difference in the communities we serve. As a pillar of the community and using the principles of the National Wraparound model one of our key goal is involving our staff, consumer’s and their families in meaningful, hands-on work that meets their needs and that of the greater community.

YSB Summer Training Collaborative
“Effective & Empowering”
WCCYSB believes in enhancing the skills and awareness of its employees. Over the summer West and East County staff participated in a series of training sessions including a free course offered by the Contra Costa County American Medical Response Team (AMR); First Aid/CPR and AED for youth and adults. Staff walked away with life-saving skills during the (right pictured) interactive presentation.
Additionally staff participated in the “Youth Mental Health First Aid” training facilitated by PROJECT AWARE and resource presentations from the community: LICE CONTROL and LEGAL SHIELD.
The Art of Healing
Pictured Above: During the Monthly DR Case Manager’s Meeting in August, Yadira leads fellow DR Case Managers from around Contra Costa County in an art therapy exercise centered around stress reduction and self-care.

In partnership with Children and Family Services WCCYSB’s Differential Response (DR) Program provides case management services for families experiencing multiple stressors such as domestic violence, substance abuse and mental health issues, which ultimately impacts the guardians’ ability to parent effectively.
This year, as a new programming component, the DR program will incorporate Art Therapy Parent Education groups designed to help parents share, learn, and disseminate information through the use of art. WCCYSB sees this as an opportunity for parents to informally connect with each other in a non-judgmental and non-threatening arena. Yadira Cazares, DR’s West County Bi-Lingual Spanish Speaking Case Manager is a certificated multi-media artist and will be the lead Facilitator of the Art Therapy Parent Education Groups.
