2025 Highlights

2025 was a productive and impactful year for the Community Foundation. Here are just a few highlights of the meaningful work accomplished:

The WZ and The Women's Giving Circle
The giving circles received a record number of requests and granted a combined total of
$306,981 to help community members in need.

Emergent Needs Funding Program

Formalized in 2025, the Emergent Needs program awarded more than $900,000 to support nonprofits facing unplanned, unexpected, or unbudgeted expenses that arise throughout the year.

Community Grants
The Community Grant Cycle awarded
89 grants to 87 organizations totaling $713,960 this year, an 8.8% increase in dollars granted and a 10% increase in organizations awarded over 2024.

Scholarships
A total of
$614,400 in scholarships was awarded to 134 students, reducing barriers to post-secondary education including vocational, 2-year and 4-year programs.

Impact Investment Program
YVCF provided three low-cost loans through our
Impact Investment Program to help local nonprofit organizations finance capital expenditures, including purchase of a new ambulance for Oak Creek Fire Protection District, and the purchase of permanent homes for Western Resilience Center and Yampa Valley Autism Program.

Utilizing your Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

If you are 70½ or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) offers a smart way to give from your IRA. With a QCD, funds are transferred directly to a qualified nonprofit and are not included in your taxable income. Although required minimum distributions or RMD begins at a later age, QCDs can be used to meet that requirement once it applies, making this a powerful tool for tax‑efficient philanthropy and lasting local impact.

Philanthropist of Year
Call for Nominations

Do you know someone who seems to always be giving back to the community, who inspires others, and who makes our valley a better place through their contributions? The Philanthropist of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the Yampa Valley Community Foundation to heighten visibility of philanthropy in the Yampa Valley. Each year this award honors Individual, Business and Youth who have exhibited significant charitable giving, insightful leadership and volunteerism, and who encourages others to contribute by example.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2026 Philanthropists of the Year – Individual, Business and Youth.
