Goodbye, Winter Blues

As summer is waning and cooler winds prevail, it’s time to plot your escape!

In my humble opinion there's no better place than Cape Town, South Africa to kick off an exciting African journey. Granted, I may be a little biased – after all, the 'Mother City' was my home for many years – but with her buzzing atmosphere, hospitable people, fabulous restaurants and amazing art galleries , not to mention iconic Table Mountain, historic Robben Island and the best wine region, the Cape is the perfect panacea to ease those winter blues!

How about combining Cape Town with a wildlife safari? Be it a game drive in an open 4X4 jeep, or a dug-out canoe ride in the Okavango Delta, galloping through the Kalahari Desert on horseback, or having your own Out of Africa experience in the Masai Mara... When planning a trip to Africa, you might as well see as much as you can!

If Africa is on your horizon, visit our booth at the Travel Expo or drop me a line to escape to the sunshine!
Elephant Eden - does it still exist?

I’ve always been intrigued by Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, and at long last my travels took me there! I'd promised to share my experiences, so here they are:

In May I found myself on an Elephant safari par excellence, travelling from waterhole to waterhole in this vast paradise, curious which animals we would spot. Never did I imagine getting this close up to the wildlife!

As we explored the vast plains of Hwange, we found that our next camp was built around a large waterhole. Forgoing the afternoon game drive, we settled in at the fire pit near the water – Gin & Tonic in hand! Once again we were very close, as elephants quenched their thirst just a few yards away. What a great decision to stay in camp, until we were chased away by a huge 6-ton bull elephant! How our guide kept us safe >>
Changing hemispheres... I’ve just returned from an incredible adventure in SE Alaska on a small ship with just 8 other passengers! Talk about getting up close to nature... breaching whales, waving grizzlies, calving glaciers… I think you’d love it there!

During our week-long expedition we followed the wildlife, stopped in at a native village to learn about their traditions and culture, explored the wilderness on foot, kayaked along quiet coves and took the skiff out to visit a colony of raucous sea lions.
This trip had been a dream for a long time, but the reality was even better than I could have imagined! More on my Alaska trip soon...

Meanwhile, I hope to see you at the YVR Travel Expo in two weeks! Ask me for those free entrance tickets :)
