Construction
Work on the YW Hub facility continues to progress. Exterior cladding, formwork and flatwork are all coming along and exterior insulation installation and hardscaping are nearing completion. The east parking lot is complete and lighting has been installed. Landscaping will resume in the spring when weather conditions improve.

Interior painting and finishing are underway. Ceilings in the fitness centre have been primed, while framing and drywall application are ongoing in all multipurpose rooms. The Parent Link and Childcare centres are progressing as framing and drywall installation continues. Range hoods have been installed in the community kitchen and in all shared kitchens in Transitional Housing neighbourhoods. Community Spaces in the YW Hub
In a few short months, the community spaces in the YW Hub will be buzzing with activity. We have been busy connecting with a number of community partners and are excited to announce that we will be partnering with Poppy Innovations to bring programs to the community kitchen in the fall of 2019.

Poppy Innovations hosts programs open to the community to learn how to grow, cook and preserve food. Their team of educators teach children and adults nutrition and food skills and are committed to promoting and supporting healthy families.

"Building healthier communities by improving how and what we eat takes a collaborative approach," says Sharon McCormick, Founder. "We look forward to working with YW Calgary in the YW Hub facility."

Stay tuned for details of program offerings, cost and registration. Visit Poppy Innovations 's website for potential offerings.

Be Part of the Transformation
In January, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC)  announced $4.7M towards our YW Hub facility project! This is the second significant investment from the Government of Canada as part of their National Housing Strategy.

This investment from the Government of Canada will help create spaces for women that are grounded in trauma-informed principles, provide safety and offer dignity as they move forward. It tells vulnerable women in Calgary that they are seen, they are heard and they will soon have a safe, secure and supportive place to call home - because s he matters.

YW 101
On March 8, 2019, YW is hosting its 6 th
annual YW CELEBRATE event, recognizing the achievements of women in our community in honour of International Women’s Day.

There has never been a more critical time to speak up and out to create equity and a bright future for women and girls. Together we are raising a glass to the successes of women in our community and continuing to bring awareness to issues of pay equity and gender parity.
