YW in the Community

We are excited to share with you the latest news and updates about the YW Hub facility, opportunities for partnerships and community involvement. Read below to learn more!
We are so excited about the fantastic construction progress at the YW Hub facility.

On the exterior, cladding is quickly being installed on all sides of the building and sidewalk and parking lot paving is close to completion.

Inside the building, the framing is complete and work continues on the drywall on the top three floors, as well as the fitness centre. Two elevators have been set up and are now operational. Electrical work also continues with pot lights and other lighting being installed.

Construction is on schedule and planning for the move into the building is well underway.

Community Spaces in the YW Hub
The intention of the community spaces is to invite community in – and provide opportunities for social interaction. The community spaces in the YW Hub facility align with YW’s goal of transitioning women back into their community where they may continue to thrive. The community spaces will offer activity, opportunity and connection for our clients, neighbours and the greater Calgary community.

With three multi-purpose rooms, a community kitchen and a fitness centre, the YW Hub facility will provide a safe space where families can learn and grow together.

Be Part of the Transformation
December is a time to confirm commitments, but also continue to talk about the possibilities with new donors. Many of these new donors are finding YW through other donors, as our message spreads and excitement for the project builds. In November, friends of YW hosted four events to help spread the word and raise funds toward the campaign.

Some donors do not know that there are many opportunities to create a legacy through their gift. Naming opportunities exist across the new Hub, including naming of a room in the transitional shelter, multi-purpose room or a group counselling suite. Naming offers the opportunity for a family, a business or an individual donor to honour a loved one or to have their business publicly associated with such an important community project.
If you would like to learn more about naming opportunities or have YW speak with your business or community group, email Jan, Vice President, Resource Development at jdamery@ywcalgary.ca

YW 101
Tuesday, November 20 th , YW’s 8th annual YWHISPER Gala featuring keynote speaker Terry Crews, brought together sponsors, donors and advocates to raise funds in support of women and families struggling with poverty, domestic abuse and social isolation.

Nearly 3,000 people, of all ages, were impacted by the conversations of the day, including 1,800 high students at Nelson Mandala School. Each person helped support the families at YW to live free from violence, find safety and economic stability, and build a brighter future.
