YWCA Providence Place Apartments Grand Opening

YWCA Greater Baton Rouge recently celebrated the opening of YWCA Providence Place Apartments. This new apartment community provides a safe and comfortable home for women and children after they have overcome obstacles such as trauma, loss, and domestic violence.

YWCA Providence Place Apartments was created, developed, and constructed by women, for women, thanks to a collaboration among community partners.

The YWCA provides resources to help families start anew. We receive daily calls from individuals in crisis, including women living in cars with their children or those in need of a safety plan. Our main challenge is providing housing, as safety is crucial for their recovery.

Join YWCA Greater Baton Rouge today and work together to enhance our services, empower women, and eliminate racism. A sponsorship program and registry has been developed to assist the YWCA with furnishing the Providence Place Apartments and providing essential household items. The sponsorship sign up and registry can be found here:

YWCA Early Head Start Graduation

Family and friends gathered on May 30 to celebrate the graduation of the 3-year-old students of YWCA Early Head Start as they advanced to the next level of their education. The event, “Sailing into a Bright Future,” featured a student art exhibit with colorful depictions of sea life, water, and sailing. The students also performed lively songs such as “Ocean Jam” and “Rock Your Body to the Colors.” Posters displaying each EHS student’s cap and gown photo, diploma, and infant photo adorned the walls.

Jacorey James, an EHS father, spoke about the importance of building a strong educational foundation. Kiristen Phillip, EHS Policy Council President, encouraged parents to continue prioritizing education for their children. YWCA CEO Dianna Payton pledged to further enhance and expand early childhood education as a key initiative of the YWCA and encouraged parents to keep education at the forefront.
