The Heart That Gives, Gathers!
|
|
You can make a difference in the lives of over 1,000 women and their children by making a contribution to the YWCA of Orange County. Your support will help:
- Lead at-risk, low income youth and workers displaced by COVID economy to employment or career training programs.
- Help adult reentry women receive college scholarships that will lead them to achieving their academic dreams.
- Teach middle school girls and boys computer coding and learn from careers in STEM through hands-on projects.
- Women without health insurance from high poverty neighborhood gain access to early breast cancer mammograms.
The heart that gives, gathers! So help us help others to stay healthy, gain employment, get enrolled in career training programs or provide needed support to adult reentry women, many single mothers, going back to college to make a better life for herself and her family. Opportunities to give are invitations to engage in acts of kindness that change lives.

Simply put, if it wasn’t for faithful supporters like you, we wouldn’t exist. So thank you for supplying the funds that we need to make a difference in the lives of women and their families who struggle to raise their families in the communities we serve.

Alejandra Y. Castillo Receives Distinguished Public Service Award from LBJ School of Public Affairs
|
|
YWCA of Orange County is pleased to announce that our CEO, Alejandra Y. Castillo is the 2020 recipient of the Distinguished Public Service Award (DPSA) from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. The Distinguished Public Service Award is the school’s highest alumni honor and highlights alumnus whose career is dedicated to public service and courage. Alejandra is known as a “high-profile national leader” with over two decades of professional experience in Washington, D.C., having served in senior leadership roles in two presidential administrations. In her work as the first Hispanic-American woman to lead the Minority Business Development Agency, Alejandra helped earned the company $15 billion in contracts and capital while retaining and creating 33,000 jobs during the Great Recession. Now as the CEO of YWCA USA, Alejandra leads a network of over 200 YWCA local associations who serve 2.3 million women and girls across the country to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
"On behalf of the Board of Directors of YWCA USA, I would like to congratulate Alejandra on her achievement, said Beth McCaw, Board Chair, YWCA USA. “We are extremely grateful for Alejandra’s experience, leadership, and dedication to advance the YWCA mission to create a more equitable and just society for women, girls, and people of color across the country."
Alejandra will be honored during a virtual ceremony on Monday, December 14th, at 7 p.m. CT. We invite family, friends, and colleagues to attend by registering here. The LBJ School will send event access details the day before the event.
In the interim, please join the YWCA USA family in congratulating Alejandra for this amazing accomplishment!
