Where is the snow?
It's the beginning of December, and we've had no snowstorms to date. A few inches a few times, but it's gone the next day. As Vermonters, we're used to snow in October, so this is very odd, though we're pretty sure it will catch up with us sooner or later. We're seeing lots of customers come in to pick up fabrics for their 'winter project' - the quilt you work on when the snow is blowing, the drifts are rising, and you can't go anywhere. It's the perfect time to sit at the sewing machine, among color and fiber, and create. Raise your hands if you've got a winter project all lined up. Not yet? Take a look through your books and patterns, pick something inspiring, dig through your stash, and come to see us for the rest. When the winds pick up and the snow flies, you'll be ready to sew.

Looking for last-minute handmade gifts? Our Ready-Mades are on the walls and tables of our Lower Level, and Rae has moved some of the holiday table runners upstairs near the front door. Check it out if you need a gift and have no time to make one! There's more information below.

The usual reminder if you are coming to see us:

*Masks are mandatory, for both customers and staff.
*Please sanitize at the door when you come in. Your hands must be completely dry before you can touch the fabric.
*Store capacity is 4 customers at once.
*We will remain closed on Sundays until further notice.

We are still processing orders to ship, and Store Pickups, so feel free to shop online. Cindy has put more than 2,200 bolts of our inventory on the website, and Marti has added thread, books, and patterns. We're doing our very best to make your Yankee Pride experience a good one, whether you're walking among the bolts or shopping from your couch.

Quilt-Along with Judy

Due to the pandemic and contact limitations, Yankee Pride is not currently doing a Mystery Quilt. Instead, we're trying something new: a quilt-along! We invite you all to take part. It's so easy to start: You can choose any quilt pattern you'd like, but if you're feeling stuck and want to try something new, click here to check out the free patterns from Windham Fabrics. They're really nice, not too difficult, and there are lots of choices (more than 60 pages worth!!).

Judy is working hard on Blue Boardwalk, by Diane Nagle (at left). Since the pattern is made up of half-square triangles and flying geese, she has reworked it using Studio 180's Wing Clipper II and Tucker Trimmer II. Those instructions are available now, by clicking here. You can print them out for yourself, and be on your way!

**Some of the patterns on Windham's list may not yet be available, as they are linked to upcoming fabric line releases.

Each Wednesday, we're posting Judy's progress on our Instagram and Facebook pages, and we encourage you to send pictures of your own progress so we can share them with everyone.

Upcoming Block of the Month Projects

We still have space if you want to sign up for "Nebula". It's a gorgeous quilt, and one where you can work on your piecing skills. Aren't those colors gorgeous? This BOM will run from January through October of 2021. Call the shop and sign up today!

Update on "American Glory":
This BOM was scheduled to start in November, but as of today, we have not yet received the fabric and instructions from the manufacturer. As soon as we do, we will contact everyone who has signed up for this project. Ruth has finished the store sample, so it will be hanging in the shop for you to see. It's really beautiful in person! We thank you all for your patience.

December Hours

Yankee Pride will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 24, and remain closed on Friday, December 25. We will also be closed on Thursday, December 31 and Friday, January 1, 2021. In this difficult time, we hope you are able to enjoy your holiday, whether you're able to be with your families, or are celebrating long-distance on Zoom or FaceTime. We wish you a happy holiday season.

Recent Fabric Arrivals

These are the highlights of recent arrivals. Click on the photo for a closeup, and click here if you're interested in purchasing any of these fabrics by the yard on our website:

Batiks

by Hoffman

Our biweekly shipment of batiks has arrived from Hoffman - this time around, it's leaves and blooms, and that adorable pastel dot print (center in photo). It's a great time to stock up on your batiks - you're going to make a winter project, aren't you?

Cotton Shot

by Benartex

These lovelies look like shot cotton, but they're just printed that way. You get subtle color change over the fabric, which always makes the fabric more beautiful and your projects more interesting.

Novelty prints

by Robert Kaufman

Judy's been ordering prints with smaller motifs, which are great for kids quilts, but they're also ideal for mask-making. Any of these four will do. The pastel birds (bottom in photo) have come through the shop in flannel, and in a larger size in cotton. They're adorable when they're tiny!

Simply Neutral 2

by Northcott

We love these black and gray prints! All three are quite striking in different ways. They're the kind of prints you use when a solid black is just too intense for your quilt. The motifs here will soften the look for you. The dots will be popular in bindings, and both leaf prints will work in your piecing.

Notions, News, and other Fun Stuff

As the holiday approach (so quickly this year!), we know that you like to give homemade gifts to family and friends. If you've run out of sewing time, we're here to help. We have lots of store samples for sale through the end of the year. These are projects we made to show off fabric or a pattern, as a class sample, or sometimes just for fun. Most of these are downstairs in our classroom space, but Rae has brought some of the holiday runners upstairs and hung them near the front door. Stop in and check out what we've got - you may just find the perfect gift!

Deanna is signing people up for our Sulky Club! This is a club we've run in the past, for people who just love the Sulky 12-wt embroidery thread, but do not yet have a collection . Over the course of six months, you will receive 80 different embroidery threads! If you participated last time around, you can sit this one out - you already have all these threads. The price is $24.99/month, and if you live far away, we do ship for a small additional fee. The club starts in January. Stop in or call to sign up!

Thank you, as always, for your business, and thank you for being our customer. We love that you still believe in shopping local!
