Yarn Tales

August 21, 2025 | Issue 01

Welcome to the very first issue of Yarn Tales! I don’t know about you, but as soon as school is back in session, I start dreaming of autumn (though the current temperatures are definitely making that difficult 😩). Join us as we reveal our newest arrivals, explore some fall-themed patterns, and preview what’s coming up next!

Store Hours

The kids are back at school, and that means we’re back to regular store hours! We are open Tuesday through Friday, 9 am - 3 pm, and Saturdays 10 am - 2 pm.

Don't forget to join us for our Saturday Sit n' Stitch every Saturday from 10 am - 12 pm. All fiber crafts are welcome!

NEW at the Shop

Wildfoote Luxury Sock Yarn

That’s right, we’re beginning to bring in yarns from Brown Sheep Company! If you didn’t know, Brown Sheep is located near Mitchell, Nebraska, and ships yarn all over the United States and abroad. We’re starting with their sock yarn, which is great not only for socks, but for mittens, shawls, and more. Check out these adorable gnome mittens [Ravelry link] knitted by Friend of the Shop Connie Boster!

Ella Rae Squish

This super soft, self-striping DK yarn is made from acrylic and polyester and packs a whopping 402 yards per skein! It’s machine washable and ready for any project that needs a vibrant punch of color!

Cozy Alpaca Chunky

You really have to come pet this yarn to understand how wildly soft it is! Cozy Alpaca Chunky from Ella Rae comes in 120 yard hanks and is 30% baby alpaca, 70% acrylic. Why not try a Snowy Trees Hat [knit, Ravelry link] or a Mountain Range Beanie [crochet, Ravelry Link]?

New Kits

We have new embroidery kits from Jessica Long Embroidery, knit and crochet kits from Hardicraft, and cross-stitch and punch needle kits from Kikkerland.

September is Chicken Month!

Here at Wool & Whimsy, we decided to declare September CHICKEN MONTH! 🐔 Then, we found out that September is actually Chicken Month according to the National Chicken Council. (Amazing.)

Anyway, join us in the month of September by crafting one or more chicken-themed projects. I’ve compiled a list of suggested patterns on Ravelry, but you can choose any pattern you’d like! We will also have a chicken Woobles kit arriving next month. Tag @woolandwhimsycrete in your Chicken Month project pictures, and join us during our last Saturday Sit n’ Stitch of the month with your chicken to see everyone else's chickens!

Coming Soon: Show & Tell Discount

Starting in September, bring in a finished project created with yarn purchased from the shop and let me take a picture of you with it (or just the project by itself) to receive 10% off your next purchase! There will be a limit of one discount coupon per month.

Sirdar's Trick or Treat Crochet Along

Get ready for Spooky Season with this fun crochet along kit from Sirdar. A crochet along, or CAL, is a crochet project that lots of people work on at the same time. They share photos of their progress, help each other with tricky spots, and even modify the original design in fun and unexpected ways. The design is broken up into multiple patterns that are released weekly. This CAL began July 23rd, but you can find all the patterns at Sirdar’s website and join their Facebook group to share photos and ask questions. We have several yarn kits still available, so stop in and grab one today!

Weaving in the Ends

You've reached the end of the newsletter, where we'll share something fun, funny, or interesting! This time it's a cool crochet technique that creates a unique ripple effect:

You can find the pattern for the Patcha Bag on Ravelry.
