We look forward to taking class pictures on Sunday. We'll use them during our end-of-the-year Yavneh slideshow and perhaps include them on the Hill Havurah website. If you don't want your child's picture taken, please turn off the camera, and change the name to Yavneh.
Hebrew on the Hill

We have exciting news! Hebrew on the Hill is a new optional mid-week Hebrew program for 3rd-6th graders, in addition to Yavneh classes or for any former Yavneh/Capitol Hill students. Rabbi Julie will tutor students by Zoom. The Hebrew curriculum matches Yavneh and Hill Havurah’s Hebrew and B’nai Mitzvah prayer goals for leading services. These are the components of the program:

  • Two options for tutoring and cost:
  • One-on-one 25-minute weekly Hebrew tutoring sessions via Zoom scheduled according to families’ and Rabbi Julie’s availability. Student’s learning will progress at his/her own pace.
  • First semester will have 10 sessions. The cost will be $450 for an individual student or $225 for two students who are studying together who are at the same Hebrew level. If a student misses one week, it will be rescheduled.
  • Second semester will have 12 sessions. The cost will be $525 for an individual student or $265 for two students studying together who are at the same Hebrew level. If a student misses one week, it will be rescheduled.
  • Two students work together during the 25-minute weekly Hebrew tutoring sessions via Zoom scheduled according to families’ and Rabbi Julie’s availability. Students’ learning will progress at their pace.
  • Schedule:
  • First semester dates will be the weeks of: Nov 16, Nov 30, Dec 7, Dec 14, Jan 4, Jan 11, Jan 25, Feb 1, Feb 8, and Feb 22.
  • Second semester dates will be the weeks of: Feb 29, March 8, March 15, March 22, March 29, April 5, April 19, April 26, May 3, May 10, May 17 and May 24.
  • Homework and Communication with Parents: Hebrew homework will offer our students the creative use of interactive decoding/reading practice utilizing Rabbi Hannah’s recordings of prayers.
  • Weekly Updates: Rabbi Julie will send parents a weekly update about each student’s progress and homework. This weekly communication will help inform parents about their children’s progress and homework.
  • Homework Reading Practice: Students will send Rabbi Julie a weekly voice recording decoding/reading/singing Hebrew from the week’s class to reinforce their lessons and guide her planning for the students’ next session.
