"Hey, Let's Put On A Show!"
Dawn Carlson and your Year Round Delegate Task Team
Just as Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland used to say, “Hey, let’s put on a show!” the NACCC is pretty quick to say, “Let’s put together a task team!” Some task teams seem to be ongoing and others take their charge and finish their work fairly quickly. The Year Round Delegate Task Team falls somewhere in the middle.
One of the foundations of the transition to a new way of “doing” the NACCC, the Year Round Delegate (YRD) program was well received when it was born in 2011. About 70% of our churches have a YRD and that's a good thing. (A great thing would be 100%, but we’re working on that.) Over the last nine years, as other tasks and priorities have taken the front burner of NACCC thinking, the YRD program has kept going, but not really moving forward. With that in mind, the YRD Task Team was born out of a conversation with the Leadership Council.
Our team convened and began by listening to YRDs, clergy, and laity to identify what the issues are. We’ve wondered why we don’t have greater participation, what we can do to support YRDs, churches, the NACCC?
With this information, we identified a number of areas where we, as a support team, could work to strengthen the YRD program. These include helping YRDs better understand the roles and responsibilities that come with accepting your position as your churches’ YRD; helping churches understand how they can support and incorporate into church life their YRD; and identifying ways the NACCC, as an association, can support YRDs.
We hope to have information to share at the Portland Annual Meeting & Conference, as well as ongoing information in this newsletter each month. What we know for sure is that the success of the YRD program rests, primarily, with YOU.
Over the next months, you will be hearing more and we really look forward to working with you to build a strong and supportive program that meets the mission and vision of the NACCC. Stay tuned!
