Livestock Skills and Quiz Bowl Competition


These contests are open to Junior (9-13) and Seniors (14-19). Participants need to sign up by Friday, July 19th to give us time to sign the kids up and arrange time for practices. For more information, please see the info below.


Quiz bowl is a team only event. We can enter one senior team and multiple junior teams. Skillathon is open to teams and individuals. We can enter one senior team, multiple junior teams, and an unlimited number of individuals.


Please call 479-495-2216 to let us know if you would like to participate. Participants will need to pay half of the registration fee and Yell County 4-H will pay the other half. Participants will need to pay their portion of the fee by the State Deadline.

Livestock Skillathon Information Sheet

This activity will provide the framework for 4-H members to learn a variety of topics related to the production, management, and evaluation of beef cattle, sheep, swine, and goats. In their training prior to the annual state contest, the 4-H'ers should learn breeds of livestock, equipment identification, feeds identification, quality assurance procedures, hay evaluation, wool evaluation, meats evaluation and general livestock knowledge. These skills will be necessary to complete the team portion of the contest with includes understanding the needs of a scenario and making the best management decisions given the information. Written and oral communication skills will be promoted through the team portions of the contest.

Livestock Quiz Bowl Information Sheet

This activity will train 4-H members to gain general knowledge about beef cattle, swine, sheep, and goats. 4-H members will process information and make informed decisions both individually and as a team. The quiz bowl format will allow participants to demonstrate their knowledge in a competitive event.
