|YOUR INSIDE SOURCE FOR EDUCATION|
It's just plain scary!
Growing up and living in New England my entire life, I've always admired the pride and level of detail taken during the Halloween season. However, I can't help but notice some people taking things to a level of detail that is just overkill - houses in our neighborhood are all decorated, but a few have their lawns and homes completely covered and are still pushing on details that will make theirs stand out over all others...
I had the opportunity to talk to an investment group heavily involved in the higher education space a few weeks ago that put a scare right through me. They were talking about a firm they have used that never took the time to provide any detail on their process of finding, attracting and placing talent. The firm simply asked for a job description and a salary range and then they started to send resumes. No level of detail was asked of the client about the intangibles and nothing besides a resume was presented to the client once the search took place.
What scared me was threefold - How in the world could a firm conduct a search without asking the key questions for a Sr. role; How could the firm "get away" with only providing a resume; AND how could the client allow a firm to conduct such an important search? If you're making a hire - expect to be challenged by a firm and ask them how they will conduct their search...anything less and it's just plain scary!
