Summer Camp 2026 Wraps Up!

Summer Camp has officially come to a close, and what a summer it was.

Club members spent the season learning, exploring and building new friendships through educational activities, field trips, swimming and community events. From hands-on projects to time in the pool to days spent out in the community, Summer Camp gave our kids and teens the chance to stay engaged, active and supported all summer long.

None of this would have been possible without the staff who showed up every day, the volunteers who gave their time, and the donors and partners who helped fund the experiences, meals and supplies that made this summer so meaningful.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Summer Camp 2026 a season Club members will remember.

CEO Rebekah Meadows Talks After-School Support on WDBJ7

As students settle back into the school year, our CEO, Rebekah Meadows, sat down with WDBJ7 to discuss how Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia supports local youth and families.

Rebekah shared how the Club serves as a consistent partner for parents and guardians Monday through Friday. Through programs located in seven schools and services provided across all nine Club locations, families can rely on safe, supportive after-school programming and transportation that helps ensure youth have access to Club opportunities without disrupting the workday. She also highlighted our recent school supply distributions across all nine Clubs, made possible through our generous community partners.

Beyond after-school care, Rebekah discussed the Club's four priority outcomes: academic success, healthy lifestyles, character and leadership, and life and workforce readiness. She explained how youth voice helps shape programming, ensuring activities reflect the interests and needs of Club members.

Rebekah also emphasized the impact of caring adult mentors, educational enrichment opportunities, field trips, nutritious meals, hands-on cooking experiences, and family engagement events that create a well-rounded Club experience for youth.

She closed by inviting community members to get involved as tutors, homework helpers, mentors, guest speakers, or event volunteers, and encouraged viewers to visit our website to learn more about supporting the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia.

Four on the 4th — Recap

The 15th Annual Four on the 4th was more than a race. It was a celebration of America's 250th anniversary and the incredible community that continues to show up for local youth.

This year, 516 runners joined us on race morning, helping raise more than $31,000 to support Club members across Southwest Virginia.

Thank you again to our presenting sponsor, the Vinton Moose Lodge, as well as every sponsor, in-kind partner, volunteer, staff member, and runner who made race day possible. Because of you, this event continues to grow as a cherished tradition that brings people together while helping create great futures for kids and teens across our region.

Back-to-School Support from Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors

Every year, the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors rallies together for our Club members, and this year was no exception.

They showed up with an incredible haul of back-to-school supplies, ready to help our young people start the school year strong. Club members even jumped in to help sort and unload it all.

Thank you, Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors, for your continued partnership and for showing up year after year for local kids. It is because of community partners like you that our members walk into the new school year feeling prepared, supported and ready to succeed.

A Buzz-Worthy Visit from Heritage Apiary

Thank you to Heritage Apiary for visiting our 9th Street & Burlington Clubs, teaching our Club members all about bees and why they matter.

From learning how bees help our environment to seeing what goes into beekeeping, Club members walked away with a whole new appreciation for these busy little pollinators.

Thank you again, Heritage Apiary, for sharing your time and expertise with our Club members. Moments like this help spark curiosity and a love of learning in ways that go beyond the classroom.

 Planet Fitness Supports Back-to-School Success

Thank you to Planet Fitness for joining this year's back-to-school supply effort and helping local Club members start the school year ready to succeed.

Community partners like Planet Fitness make a real difference for families heading into a new school year, and we are grateful for their generosity and continued support of Club members across Southwest Virginia.

Engineering in Action

Club members at Shawsville Middle School and Eastern Montgomery High School put their engineering skills to the test by designing containers to protect an egg from a big drop.

Through creativity, teamwork and problem-solving, they learned that every design is a chance to test, improve and try again.

Experiences like these empower Club members to see themselves as future innovators, engineers, scientists, and leaders.
