November 10, 2019 ~ Building Community One Positive Story at a Time
The Bridge Coffee House
A new nonprofit coffee house has opened up in West Bridgewater. Their goal is to bring people together through a cup of coffee. They have a variety of nonprofits that they are partnered with both locally and abroad. Each month they highlight a new organization. Last month was Keeping Pace With Multiple Miracles and this month is Teen Challenge, Brockton. Next month will be Mana World Wide. Each month they share about the amazing work they are doing both locally and/or around the globe! Their heart is to connect people to people and cultures to cultures through use of their space as well as financially supporting nonprofits around the world with all proceeds. Stop in for a cup!
From their Facebook Page: "This is David Homsy, our amazing leader here at The Bridge Coffee House! He loves spending time with his wife, Erin, and his two sons, Caleb and Luke. He’s 1st generation from Lebanon and graduated from Suffolk University business management. He’s fluent in Arabic and is a killer backcountry snowboarder! Stop in and say hi!"

Growing Up in the 1950's

Growing up in the 1950s, many things were different. The bath tub in front of the stove was not all that long ago. Many apartments did not have hot water heaters, so any hot water for washing had to be heated on the stove.

We had a bath tub in the bathroom, but you still had to heat the water on the stove for the tub. There were other times when my Dad would say "It's time for an Army bath." During his tour in France during WWll, he would often have to wash up in a helmet full of hot water. In our case, it was a small sink filled with hot water heated on the stove, a bar of soap and a face cloth.

Some may remember the term, "pull the chain when you're done." Some toilets had a water tank mounted high up on the wall and there was a chain that hung beside it to flush it.

That was also back in the days when you had to get up and walk across the room to change the channel on the television. TVs back then, if you were lucky enough to have one, were smaller than most computer monitors; the picture was black and white; you only had four or five stations and it went off the air between midnight and 6:30 AM.
Respectfully submitted, David Moore

The only requirement I was adamant on was that OUR group will be fun, relaxed, efficient, and FREE!" ~ NGUSA Founder Brendon Elliot

STEM
Week
"West Bridgewater Sophomores have been participating in STEM Week-Project Lead the Way, sponsored by the Mass STEM Hub, October 21-25. Students have been engaged in a real-world problem-solving adventure tackling the issue of managing and disposal of e-waste. Students worked towards understanding the scope of electronics usage in our daily lives, exploring electronic waste and ecotoxicology, and practicing systems thinking to consider how we can promote a more sustainable product life cycle.
Students were arranged in research teams with assigned roles in order to produce several different work products associated with e-waste. Each research team contained a project manager, recorder, presenter, and quality assurance person. Teams either produced a social media campaign to create awareness or organized an e-waste community disposal drive.
Top proposals will be chosen and submitted for review by STEM professionals and sustainability experts. Top proposals will also be made public on the web through the school website in the coming weeks."

Yes, You Can!
You can design your own life, you can change those habits that are holding you back, you can build a better life for yourself.

Small changes that help your mind, your body or your spirit make a big difference. Take on one bad habit at a time, something you think is holding you back.

The amount of time it takes to change a habit varies from the person, the circumstance and the habit itself, but prevailing wisdom says it's somewhere between 2 - 3 months.

Here are some tips:
  1. Set clear goals. Make sure the behaviors you want to change are specific, measurable, and attainable. ...
  2. Make a realistic plan. Set yourself up for success by making sure you have practical ways to reach your goals. ...
  3. Avoid making too many changes at once. ...
  4. Think positively. ...
  5. Change for yourself, not anyone else.
