It is great to see so many individuals, families & dogs out walking and jogging again. Please consider including the library in one of your walks. The annual Cape Cod 5K to benefit the library takes virtual form this year. Login to CC5k.org to enter yourself, your kids or your dog. A small registration fee comes with a custom gaiter for the first 200 to register, kids medals also. In support of local business prizes will be purchased from Osterville stores and restaurants. You can also just set up a peer to peer fundraising page.
41st Cape Cod 5k Run for the Library
Confronting the way we understand and talk about race in America. OVL has Virtual Reality Experiences dealing with race and other issues.
Appointments are required.
Traveling While Black highlights the urgent need to not only remember the past but to learn from it, and facilitate a dialogue about the challenges minority travelers still face today.

Academy Award winner Roger Ross Williams and Emmy Award-winning Felix & Paul Studios' film transports you to historic Ben's Chili Bowl in Washington DC. The viewer shares an intimate series of moments with several of the patrons of Ben's as they reflect on their experiences of restricted movement and race relations in the U.S.
The VR experience allows one to literally walk in the shoes of the people who fought for freedom and equality during the civil rights era.

Most importantly, this project gives users a deeper awareness of their struggle. Using historical film and photographs, along with voice narrations of actual Civil Rights participants, the project falls along the lines of a new type of interactive-documentary experience.

Storytime with Wendy
Every Wednesday at 10AM a new storytime is added on Facebook, you can also view past storytimes on our YouTube channel.

Extended through June due to popular demand
  • Teen aged school graduates will receive the book “A Letter to the 2020 Senior Class,” which details the unprecedented challenges our 2020 graduates face on account of the current pandemic.
  • Younger graduates, for whom a journey in education has only just begun, will receive a copy of Dr Seuss’s “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!”
How the Graduation Experience Works

  • First, call the library at 508-428-5757 to reserve a half hour time slot.
  • You’ll be able to play “Pomp and Circumstance” by asking "Alexa" and we read your short introduction over a microphone as you walk through the decorated gazebo.
