In the parsha of KYHS graduation week, Parashat Nasso, there is a lengthy paragraph that practically repeats itself twelve times! The paragraph describes the gifts and offerings brought by the leaders of each of the twelve tribes. But the offerings themselves were identical!

This seeming redundancy makes this parsha the longest in the Torah. Not only that, but at the end of the twelve repetitive paragraphs, there is a one-paragraph recap of all the gifts.  Had it been consolidated, we could have had one paragraph, preceded by the list of the twelve leaders, and we would be out of shul ten minutes earlier.

Most commentaries agree that this is done to emphasize the individuality and contribution of each leader. And the summation paragraph is to demonstrate how powerful they were when they came together.

Our graduating class is starting the next phase of their journey. Each student brought talents, greatness and individuality to KYHS. They achieved so much in their time at the school, and made KYHS a much better place with their unique presence.

But as a cohesive grade, they also made a profound impact on our school. The tapestry that they created showed their collective power and influence.

Our bracha for our graduates (and all of our students) is that you continue to shine as individuals but simultaneously stay united with Klal Yisrael

Shabbat Shalom and best wishes for a peaceful and productive summer,

Dr. Roni Raab

A Graceful Goodbye

KYHS Seniors Officially Finish High school at Graduation Ceremony

Graphic by Technical Staff

Some endings don’t feel real until they are happening. We pictured this day for years—what it would feel like to say our final farewells, throw our caps in the air, and move on with our lives. But nothing prepared us for the reality of standing on that stage beside our entire grade, scanning the audience for family and friends. Our caps and gowns suddenly shifted from just fabric and tassels to the bridge between our pasts and futures.

One moment, we were freshmen trying to find the Beit Midrash; the next, we are Katz alumni, holding diplomas in one hand and years of growth in the other. As each student was presented with individualized teacher messages, a wave of emotions swept through us—anxiety, pride, sadness, excitement, and even hope. While we were closing a chapter of our lives, we were stepping into the unknown with something stronger than just our academic skills—faith. Faith in Hashem and ourselves.

After the ceremony, with families mingling over refreshments, one thing became clear: we’ve built something lasting. A community. A home. As Ari Mergui ('25) perfectly encapsulated in his speech, KYHS taught us that “Am Yisrael is not just a people–it is a promise. It is the promise that we, as Jews, will forever be there for one another.” Though the Class of 2025 now goes our separate ways (just to run into each other on Ben Yehuda in September), the bonds we’ve formed, the values we’ve lived, and the lessons we’ve learned will forever be ingrained within, carrying us far beyond the KYHS walls.

Seniors Go on Grade Trip to Guatemala

Graphic by Technical Staff

Recently, the seniors embarked on the unforgettable trip to Guatemala and El Salvador where they spent five days connecting to the Jewish communities and participating in a variety of thrilling activities. From waterfall rappelling, cleaning up communities, driving ATVs, and zip lining, the trip was packed with adventure and meaningful experiences.

Senior Calev Zak (‘25) shared, “the senior trip to Guatemala was the perfect last bonding experience for our grade—super fun, full of laughs, and something we’ll always remember.”

While every activity definitely left a lasting impression on each senior, one of the most memorable and impactful moments was “Senior Circle.” For this activity, the students took turns standing up and discussing their meaningful experiences throughout high school, expressing their gratitude to close friends, and talking about their love for KYHS. As classmate Rebecca Slesinger (‘25) described, “It was one of the most special and meaningful experiences I’ve ever had.”

Overall, the senior Guatemala trip was a joyful and impactful experience—one that will be remembered by every student and staff member who participated.

We, the Class of 2025, are extremely grateful for everything KYHS has given us these last four years, so as a final message, we want to thank all KYHS teachers and staff for all the help, care, and kindness that they have shown to us during our time at KYHS.

Time Flies...

Seniors Reminisce on the Last 4 Years at Senior Dinner

Graphic by Blimi Farkas ('26)

Our Senior Dinner was the last in-school event before Guatemala and Graduation—and it was perfect.

Everyone showed up in “Black Tie” attire, which gave us all a real glimpse of the adults we are now becoming. No longer the same students wearing the same school clothes in the same school air, everyone looked like their future selves.

We started off with the obvious part—dinner—which was the fanciest food you could imagine: Barbeque. The Beit Midrash was decorated like a real venue, with pictures of us from throughout high school posted up all around the buffet for us to take home.

After dinner, we watched the amazing Senior Video made almost exclusively by Aaron Rosenhouse ('25) (shoutout Lazaar Point Focus). The video was funny, emotional, nostalgic, and was an amazing way to sum up our four years together. After that, we gathered in the Small Beit Midrash for a moving candle-lit kumzitz, and then we got our yearbooks and spent the night signing each other’s.

Overall, senior dinner was an inspiring and moving experience, and a perfect way to wrap up our high school years together.
