YoPA SOWETO GIVES A START ON THE INTERVENTION PHASE

🎉 The YoPA Soweto team has officially kicked off the intervention phase! On June 16th, after successfully reaching their recruitment goal, the first session was held at the Jabulani Youth Centre. The participants are already showing great excitement and engagement. Check out more pictures and stay tuned!

YoPA IN AMSTERDAM WRAPS UP A POWERFUL CO-CREATION PARTNERSHIP

On June 20th, the YoPA Amsterdam team wrapped up a successful co-creation journey with two classes at Calandlyceum, a secondary school in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. Together with teacher Kavita Mathoera, students explored physical inactivity through creative storytelling and youth-driven insights.

The event brought together YoPA researchers along with a representative from the Municipality of Amsterdam, to celebrate the students’ contributions and spark valuable dialogue on local youth challenges.

THE FIRST YoPA SPIN-OFF KICKS OFF IN PORTUGAL

From May to June 2025, 15 teenagers from Algueirão-Mem Martins took part in the first YoPA project spin-off, in Portugal. 14 co-creation sessions were delivered based on the original Phase 1 YoPA protocol. Led by local PhD students, the group explored factors influencing youth health and physical activity and had strong local support and positive feedback!

OUR RESEARCHERS

Read about Dr. Marlene Nunes Silva - an Associate Professor and the Director of the Master Program in Exercise and Well Being, at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Lusofona University (Lisbon, Portugal).

Her background is in clinical psychology, behavioural science and public health interventions.
