Women's Month and International Women's DAY edition

YK.png

My dear Kinship Community,

Welcome to the Yoga Kinship March newsletter as we celebrate Women's Month and International Women's Day. Tuesday, March 8 is a globally recognized celebration and acknowledgment of women's social, economical, political, and cultural achievements. The theme this year is Break the Bias. It is an invitation to actively call out gender bias, discrimination, and stereotyping whenever and wherever we see it.

I remember attending several International Women's Day events as a young girl and the feeling of empowerment and motivation stays with me to this day. I implore you all, irrespective of gender to challenge our institutionally sexist systems by advocating, interrupting, and dismantling these structures.

Wishing you wellness,

Dee x

I recently had the pleasure of working with the amazing woman owned company, Yoga Purse. Yoga Purse creates beautifully functional and ethically sourced bags to transport your yoga mat. Materials are made from organic and repurposed fabrics that hold your mat as well as other essentials such as phone, water bottle and keys. Yoga Purse bags can be purchased online and can also be found at markets and pop-ups across the US. Yoga Purse is offering a 5% discount to the Yoga Kinship community here. GARA: Goldsmiths Anti-Racism Award

GARA, a BIPOC student protest group in London, began organizing in March 2019. They were responding to a racist attack on a Student Union candidate, in addition to the issue of systemic racism at their campus. After 137 days of occupation and protest, their demands were granted. One of these demands was the creation of the GARA fund to support events for the BIPOC community. Yoga Kinship's application was successful and I'm now looking for opportunities to develop my outreach.

Endometriosis Awareness Week: March 3 - 9

Yoga for Endometriosis and pelvic pain

Endometriosis, sometimes called "endo," is a common health problem in women. It gets its name from the word endometrium, the tissue that normally lines the uterus or womb. Endometriosis happens when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of your uterus and on other areas in your body where it doesn't belong. Endometriosis can happen in any girl or woman who has menstrual periods, but it is more common in women in their 30s and 40s. Symptoms include acute and chronic pain, challenges with fertility, excessive bleeding, and digestive problems. Cite: Womenshealth.gov

Here are three poses that can help to ease pelvic pain and the symptoms of endometriosis.
