On April 23, the Jewish Federation of Ottawa invites the community to an evening of reflection through art as remembrance—honouring victims and survivors through the eyes of two compelling artists. Painter Jacqueline Kott-Wolle and photographer Rafael Goldchain, both descendants of survivors, use their art to explore memory, identity, and legacy. Moderated by Jewish Studies scholar Hernan Tesler-Mabé, this moving conversation will delve into how creativity helps preserve history and keep stories alive for future generations.

Passover has always held a special place in Communications and Social Media Specialist Ethan Rode's heart — from childhood seders with friends and grandparents to the unforgettable experience of sharing the holiday with his non-Jewish partner for the first time. Seeing the holiday through a fresh set of eyes renewed a sense of pride, identity, and connection at a critical time for the Jewish people.

One loaf at a time: One woman's post-October 7 mitzvah of love


After the October 7 attacks in Israel, Janice Pleet found solace and purpose in the weekly ritual of baking challah for her synagogue. What began as a personal mitzvah soon became a cherished act of community care — drawing people closer to Shabbat and to one another. At a critical point in Jewish history, Pleet's story reminds us of the simple joys of living Jewishly, baking one loaf of challah at a time.
