Two very notable occasions occur this time of year!
First, we honor all the Fathers in our community. Their strength of character, dedication and moral values shape their families and our community. We salute all those men who have given time to a child and made a difference in their lives. It takes a special person to be a Father!
Second, we congratulate all those who are graduating from their educational institutions!
College Grads ready to make their way in the world! Great Job and Best Wishes! We are proud of you!
High School Grads! For those who are continuing your education, keep up the good work.
Those who are planning on joining our military forces, may God be with you and your families. Thank you for your service.
And for those who plan on entering the work force, we wish you success in your future careers.
Each year I ask the various High schools for a list of the graduates who have distinguished themselves. Please take a little time and review this commendable group of students listed below! Congratulations to you all! You have made your parents, friends and community very proud!

Safety Message from OCSD | There have been 8 drownings and 9 near-drownings this year already. Please help us prevent any more of these tragic incidents from occurring.
A - Adult Supervision
* Assign an adult "water watcher" who can swim.
* Designate an adult to supervise the children in and around the pool/spa area especially during social gatherings.
* Never leave children in or around a pool unattended - not even for one second.
* Take the children out of and away from the swimming pool/spa area for any distractions such as a telephone call or to use of restroom.
B - Barriers
* Install and maintain proper fencing around the pool to isolate your swimming area from the home and play area.
* Use multiple layers of protection such as safety covers, gate alarms, door alarms and motion-detection devices
* Make sure all gates are self-closing, self-latching and open outward away from the pool.
* Take away all objects that allow a child to climb up to reach the gate latch or climb over the fence.
C - Classes - "CPR"
* Learn CPR, first aid, and rescue techniques.
* Learn swim skills through on-going qualified instruction.
* Keep rescue equipment such as a shepherd's hook, life-saving ring, and CPR sign mounted by the pool to instruct others.
* Find out and understand the proper behavior in and around the water. Teach children the same behaviors.

AND Another Recent Phone Scam | Neighborhood Watch and Community Members, We have been receiving phone calls the past few days about another phone scam going around. This scam involves a caller claiming to be from the IRS and attempting to collect money for tax evasion or tax fraud. We have had a few different names and situations reported but wanted to share the information as soon as possible to avoid anyone falling victim to this scam. As always, DO NOT give any personal information out over the phone and do not send money, check, cash or any other form of payment in the mail to someone you don't know. If you do fall victim, please contact us to report it right away. Typically, if a tax evasion or fraud issue came up that involved you, a certified letter would be sent in the mail explaining the situation. The IRS does not usually contact people over the phone to discuss these circumstances.
Here are the names and numbers for those claiming to be from the IRS in recent phone scams:
-Officer Hanna Grey, 202-506-6501 -John Harris (automated voicemail), 888-370-9574 -George Marvin / Peter Marshall (heavy accents), 877-395-4886
Please be sure to share with your friends, neighbors and relatives and remember.....do not give any information out over the phone. Thank you!

Ceilo Vista and Esperanza Hills Update
|
We've contacted close to 650 households so far...and hope to reach 875 homes.
Seeing such important progress and resounding support for this effort, the anonymous donor offering the $10,000 challenge grant has graciously extended the deadline for our matching grant to June 30th.
We now have an extra 30 days to bring the remaining funds. We only need about $2,000 more to meet the challenge. Support during this fundraising effort has been so appreciated.

Yorba Linda Neighborhood Watch
|
The Yorba Linda Police Chief, Lt Wren has consistently emphasized the importance of community involvement. Each time a suspect has been apprehended on suspicion of burglary, the credit was due to our own community member observations and willingness to notify the Sheriff Dept of the problem.
Neighborhood Watch programs are an integral part of keeping our community safe. You get to know your neighbors and become aware of what to look for and see that may seem out of the ordinary. Early reporting is key to keeping our community safe.
To form or join a Neighborhood Watch program in your neighborhood, contact Cassandra Bodily at the Orange County Sheriff, Yorba Linda Sub Station:
(714) 779-7098.
We are all our first defense in defending our family, neighbors and our community.
