Voter Urges NO on Measure KK
Approval Would Put All Neighborhoods in Jeopardy
Opinion
______________________________
Like all Yorba Linda residents, I value local control and care about the qualities and characteristics of our neighborhoods. I believe that we face significant danger to these ideals in Measure KK, and this risk is not limited to the Bryant Ranch area where the Measure KK land parcel is located, but could create broader risk by initiating a new zoning category being applied to land use across our city.
If Approved, Measure KK Means Higher Densities for our City
This developer-led Initiative, if approved by Yorba Linda voters, will create a completely new Zoning Code in our city, MU-30, bringing with it greater density than exists anywhere else in our Yorba Linda neighborhoods. Measure KK allows the developer to WAIVE MANY requirements in the City of Yorba Linda building codes and standards, and COMPLETELY ELIMINATES California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) studies being conducted for traffic and other analysis prior to any development being built.

Freeway Complex Fire, 2008
Limited escape routes still exist
_____________________
Safety Impacts, One Major Access Road
While no one I know in Yorba Linda desires this kind of high-density growth without accountability, there are also serious safety impacts being proposed within Measure KK. This plan, if approved, would build BETWEEN 270-320 housing units in a 4-story building located in a designated VERY HIGH FIRE HAZARD SEVERITY ZONE with ONLY ONE MAJOR ACCESS ROAD that faces daily gridlocked traffic due to 91 Freeway Eastbound traffic.
Free Reign Development, if Passed
Measure KK, if passed by voters, would give the owner/developer by-right, ministerial authority (which means signature only) to do whatever they want, regardless of Yorba Linda building standards. The citizens of Yorba Linda know better than to be TRICKED into allowing higher density in our residential neighborhoods.
Please join me in voting NO on Measure KK, sending a message to developers that Yorba Lindams want responsible accountability zoning to maintain the beauty and safety of our city.

Complaint Filed Against Developer Min Chen
The woman behind Measure KK, the high-rise, high-density
proposed project at Bryant Ranch Center
Opinion
_________________________
Putting the Cart Before the Horse- Developer Min Chen hired a San Francisco attorney to write an initiative, hired a research group to provide voter information, paid out-of-town signature gatherers and purchased and sent misleading mailers to Yorba Lindans without registering as a Political Action Committee (PAC).
These actions violated filing requirements and carry financial penalties. This also does not speak highly of a developer hoping to gain public trust.

Complaint Filed Against Developer Min Chen
The woman behind Measure KK, the high-rise, high-density
proposed project at Bryant Ranch Center
Opinion
_________________________
A complaint has been filed with the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC), naming Min Chen, the owner of the Bryant Ranch Center. The complaint involves failure to file her committee, "Yorba Lindans for Responsible Government", with the FPPC. The complaint also names the sponsor of Measure KK, Yorba Canyon LLC. This matter involves several violations and carries financial penalties. It will not be resolved immediately.
In short, Min Chen funded and hired a San Francisco attorney to write an initiative, hired a research group to provide voter information, paid out-of-town signature gatherers and purchased and sent mailers to Yorba Lindans without registering as a Political Action Committee (PAC). These actions violated FPPC requirements and carry financial penalties. This also does not speak highly of a developer hoping to gain public trust and approval.
Min Chen filed to become a PAC, known as "Yorba Lindans for Responsible Government", Yorba Canyon LLC, on September 8, 2024. Yorba Canyon LLC, who is sponsoring Measure KK, deposited $210,000 that will be used to convince voters to approve the 340+ unit high-rise, high-density project that would replace the “ice palace”.

Voter Guides and Information
Don't be deceived!
Opinion
________________________________________
The more money a candidate has to spend, the deeper the pockets which
usually involves at least one future quid pro quo vote. As an example, the item might possibly be for a future City Council vote where densities are lowered, allowing for more profit to the builder.
________________
Voter Guide or Newsletter- These arrive by mail and may give the impression that the candidate has been endorsed by a political party or group. Various candidates, sometimes state-wide, are listed with pictures and their campaign issues. The mailer leads you to believe that candidates have been selected as the "best choice".
Fact: The candidate pays to be included in voter guides. The candidate may change his or her priorities depending on who is receiving the guide. The costs vary depending on the voting area. For example, to all high propensity Yorba Linda voters (those who vote often), the cost might range from $2500-$500 just to list a candidate. One might assume that the more guides for a particular candidate means a "better" candidate. What it really means is that the candidate spent more money, and in the case of Yorba Linda, might be supported financially by those who are pro-development.
Slick mailers slamming or endorsing candidates- These are often produced by political action committees (PACs). If the mailer is against a candidate, the information may not be true and the photos may be most unbecoming.
Fact: Upon investigation, the address of the sender will mostly be a postal annex address or an empty office. You will only know who is paying for the mailer after periodic financial filings are made to the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC). By that time, you may have already cast your vote. The cost for mailing to high propensity voters in Yorba Linda could be as high as $10,000. The more mailers you receive from a particular candidate, or against, means that a great deal of money has changed hands, indicating deep pockets and lots of future quid pro quo votes.
Last minute mailer, slamming a candidate- The mailer arrives three or four days prior to the election date.
Fact: The opponent does not have the opportunity to respond.
Push Polls- You are asked to give your opinion by someone conducting a survey, usually by phone.
Fact: The caller asks questions while promoting their agenda or candidate(s). Polling is very expensive and may cost a minimum of $10,000 for a local city race which leads one to wonder who is paying and who wants to know. Again, you will not know the name of the company and any information until the FPPC filing. The money will generally come from a PAC.
Endorsements by out-of-town special interest groups: This generally comes with a price tag which is quid quo pro for future support and votes.
Fact: This group will be expecting support in the future when a vote comes forward, assuming that person is elected.
Robo Calls- The fastest and least expensive way to get the word out.

A Trojan Horse for Yorba Lindans

The contact listed for Measure KK, Yorba Canyon LLC, is 12100 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 320, Los Angeles.
Min Chen is reportedly the person behind Measure KK and the owner of the Bryant Ranch Center, excluding Fantasy Burger and ARCO Gas.
Chen reportedly hired a San Francisco attorney in 2023 to write an initiative that would eventually become Measure KK. Chen hired out-of-town signature gathers who knew very little about Yorba Linda and reportedly gave misinformation to residents. Most paid gatherers receive at least $5 per signature.
In my particular experience, at Stater Brothers, Lakeview, I was approached to sign the initiative and was told that "it would add more restaurants in Yorba Linda". Since this would be an east side project, I asked why they were gathering signatures in west Yorba Linda, The person had no answer. I did not sign.
Recently, Min Chen formed a Political Action Committee (PAC) called Yorba Lindans for Responsible Government. The mailers for Measure KK list no FPPC# and the Yorba Linda address listed on the mailers is an empty office.
$220, 000 was recently deposited in the Measure KK, PAC account that will be used to gain approval for the project.

Residents say that 23621 La Palma Ave, Suite E, in the center of this picture, was originally a glass company and that a few items remain. Otherwise, the space appears to be empty and a convenient local address for Yorba Canyon LLC. | |

How to Remove Skunk Smells-Opinion
From a post on Facebook
________________________________
The best way we’ve found to remove the smell of skunk is:
1 bottle hydrogen peroxide,
1 tablespoon dish soap
1/4 cup baking soda
Sponge
Put first two in bowl, have the stinky one ready in sink and just before you sponge the mixture on add baking soda. Be VERY careful not to get it in nose or eyes. Massage through hair. Let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing. Use your regular soap, rinse, dry. You literally can let them sleep on your bed after with no issues.
