York Academy Families:

Many thanks to our K-3 families who came to our Love of Learning Literacy event last week. Many thanks to the teachers and staff who planned it. Save the date for our March Madness Literacy Night for 4-6 families on March 27.

As a reminder, the first Admissions Information Session for the 2024-25 Lottery is this Saturday (2/17) from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at the Lower School. We are accepting applications through March 31 for students entering K-9th grade. Tell your friends and family how the York Academy is different and encourage them to come. Click here to learn more.

Lastly, if you walk through the Lower School halls, you'll see impressive displays to celebrate Black History Month. Sixth graders helped create the one that's pictured. They chose the photos and added pictures of students. It's stunning and impactful.

Thanks for all you do and enjoy the evening,

Dr. Lowe

Our Senior Art Exhibition is coming up and it's time to celebrate the amazing talents of 11 of our DP artists!

Their works of art will be on exhibit at Marketview Arts for the entire month of March.

The students' artwork encompasses a wide range of media concepts and methods of personal expression.

Join us at the Senior Reception on Friday, March 1 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at Marketview Arts (37 W. Philadelphia St.). You'll be amazed by their skills and creativity!

Don't Miss This Important "Drugs 101" Program on March 5

The York Academy Counseling Department will be hosting an informative program for adults called "Drugs 101" on Tuesday, March 5 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at the Upper School. It will be led by facilitators from the Byrnes Health Education Center.

This program is for parents and the key adults in their children's lives (ex. grandparents, aunts/uncles, and others). A bedroom scene will be set up to help attendees identify signs of possible drug use. Facilitators will also cover drug prevention.

Because of the sensitivity of the topic, children should not come along. Plan ahead and make childcare arrangements now.

Guests are invited to come for dinner at 5 p.m. Please sign up below by February 27 so we know how much pizza to order.

Not sure if you can make it? Last minute guests are welcome even if they haven't signed up. We would love to have a terrific turnout for this important topic!

Congrats to Our Knight Staff Superstar: Alina Henninger

Congrats to Middle Years Programme (MYP) Coordinator, Alina Henninger for being our Knight Staff Superstar and exemplifying the International Baccalaureate learner profile attribute of being a strong communicator.

According to her nominee: "Mrs. Henninger works tirelessly to ensure that our teachers and students feel supported and have what they need to be successful. She is an excellent listener and helps troubleshoot and solve any challenges that happen during the day.

Mrs. Henninger also connects well with the students and is committed to helping them experience academic success and be involved in activities they enjoy. She has been instrumental in helping our 10th graders organize and complete their Personal Projects. Mrs. Henninger also works with House Council to plan events for students including Homecoming and the Spring Fling."

Thank you for the countless ways you make an impact at the Upper School, Mrs. Henninger. You are valued!

Do you have an hour to share on an early dismissal day? The Lower School is seeking volunteers to participate in "House Hangouts" from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. on half days.

We dedicate this time to connect with our students outside of the typical classroom setting. Students celebrate each other, make plans for future success, learn about other Houses, and engage in fun activities! If you're interested in connecting with our students and building relationships with them, we're looking for you!

Volunteers are required to complete the clearance packet available in the Lower School office or on our website. Questions? Email Iris Bordonada or call (717) 801-3900.

*Please Note: There is a possibility that you may not be placed in your child's House if another House needs support (ex. Onesto, Byodo, etc.).

The Kids Heart Challenge Is On

Lower School students recently took part in our Kids Heart Challenge Kick Off Assembly for the American Heart Association. Each student received a donation packet. Please use this information to help your child complete Finn's Mission, receive a special prize, and get started.

Donations will be accepted through March 8. The top boy and girl from each grade level will get to shave Mr. Gray's beard and Mr. Goodwin's beard! Plus, the top two classrooms who raise the most and the classroom with the most participants will win stuffed avocados for their teacher/classroom.

In addition, everyone who creates a donation page will instantly be entered in a national drawing to win two tickets to the 2025 Super Bowl!

So far students have raised 59% of the $7,500 goal! Way to go, Knights. Let's keep working together to be heart healthy and raise funds and awareness for the American Heart Association!
