The Lowdown with Dr. Lowe
Hello York Academy Families:

It's National School Choice Week and I want to take a moment to thank you for choosing York Academy. It's very important for families to have access to a school that matches their children's learning needs and allows them to fulfill their potential. National School Choice Week shines a spotlight on quality K-12 education options like York Academy. I'm so glad you are part of our family.

I also want to be sure you're aware that we'll be accepting applications for the 2022-23 school year from February 1 - March 31. You can find out more in an article below. Please share this information with your friends so they could possibly be Knights, too!
For the safety of our school community, I encourage you to get vaccinated if you have not done so yet. Click here to find a location or learn more. Family First Health also offers the vaccine at various locations locally. Click here for details about a vaccine clinic they're having this Friday (1/28) from 3 - 6 p.m. for ages five and up.
Lastly, I have to ask for more help again. I've been seeing an uptick in the number of families who are dropping off their children in the middle of the street, and I am very concerned. Please follow drop-off procedures so all of our children are safe and ready to start each day. Click below for a refresher.
Thank you and enjoy the evening,
Dr. Michael Lowe
Knight Nod Achiever: Noah Rodriguez
Congratulations to Noah Rodriguez, a 10th grader who is our Knight Nod Achiever. He was nominated for embodying the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile attribute of being a strong communicator.

Communicators express themselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. They collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.

According to his nominee, Noah displays the IB attribute of being a "communicator" when he assists his peers during class. Noah is capable of quickly identifying patterns and understanding systems, especially in math class. He frequently pushes himself to try higher-level problems independently while the teacher continues to facilitate a group discussion. When it comes time to do independent work, Noah aids his teacher by offering help to students who require extra assistance or need a problem explained from a student-perspective. Noah's ability to collaborate with his classmates effortlessly and his willingness to support the learning environment makes math class a positive, helpful learning experience.

Here's a big "Knight Nod" for being an excellent and valued communicator, Noah. We're proud of you!

PTO to Offer Valentine's Day Candy Gram Fundraiser
The York Academy PTO is excited to share a fun way to celebrate Valentine's Day and support their efforts...candy grams! Each gram will be $1. You can also purchase 26 candy grams for your child's class for $20. All orders must be returned to homeroom teachers by Wednesday, February 2. Cash or checks are welcome (made out to York Academy PTO). Watch for order forms this week!
Parents' Night Out: Next Friday
Join us for the next Parents' Night Out event on Friday, February 4 from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Upper School! Mrs. Chester and the Upper School students of York Academy's National Art Honor Society would love to spend the evening with your children while you go to dinner, catch a movie, or just chill peacefully on your couch.

York Academy students in grades K-6 are invited. Siblings and friends/neighbors of YARCS who are not students are welcome as long as they are in kindergarten or older. There will be group games and activities in the gym and a cool down snack before everyone watches Ice Age (PG) in the Dr. Dennis Baughman Center for Creative Expression/Black Box Theater.

Click below for more details and to register. All proceeds support the Upper School National Art Honor Society spring field trip. We appreciate your help in advance!
Lower School Musicians Take the Gold
Mr. Michael, our wonderful Instrumental Music Teacher, loves to inspire and recognize his students. He brought back the Golden Music Stand again this year, which symbolizes exceptional work in instrumental music. The stand is awarded as a sort of trophy to a "musician of the month" in band and orchestra.

Only students who are consistently prepared, on time, and perform the assigned music at a high level are eligible to receive the award. Winners earn the right to use the Golden Music Stand exclusively for an entire month of lessons and rehearsals before it moves on to another hard-working ensemble member.

Congratulations to cellist Jude Given (strings) and trumpet player Jordan Jackson (band - not pictured) for "taking the gold" this month!
Get Pumped for the Kids Heart Challenge
It's only been one week, and our amazing students have raised $3,846 in the Kids Heart Challenge. Way to go! Remember - in order to turn Miss Kinard into a human ice cream sundae, we must raise $7,360 for the American Heart Association. If you still need to register, click here.

Check out this short video update from Miss Kinard. You don't want to miss it!
PTO Meeting: February 7
Save the date for the next PTO meeting! It will be held on Monday, February 7 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. in the Lower School Media Center (3rd floor).

Come learn what exciting things are being planned and get involved. Everyone is welcome and we'd love to see you!
Students Celebrate 100th Day of School
Last week, our youngest students celebrated the 100th day of school with a kindergarten parade and fun activities related to the number 100! Here are some photos from the big day.
Admissions Information for the 2022-23 School Year
The York Academy will be accepting applications for students (K-9) to be included in the 2022-23 lottery from February 1 - March 31! The link to apply online will be posted on our website on February 1.

Click here to learn more and find out when we're holding Admissions Information Sessions in February and March!

We highly encourage all interested parents to apply online by March 31 so their children will be included in the lottery (April 4). Students who apply after March 31 will be added to the end of the 2022-23 waiting list. Please note that children must be five years old by August 31 to start kindergarten.

Attention York Academy Parents: Does your child attend YARCS and you'd like their sibling(s) to start here in August? Applications are required for all new students, and you must complete the online application for them by March 31. That way, they will be included in the lottery. This is very important, so if you have questions, email us at [email protected] or call (717) 801-3900.

Is your child on the current waiting list (2021-22 school year)? You will need to reapply for the 2022-23 school year by March 31 so they will be included in the lottery.

Please share this information with your friends and family, and spread the good word about our stellar school. Thank you!
