York Academy Families:

Due to the weather, the York Academy will be closed tomorrow (2/6). Please check our Inclement Weather Procedures for details.

In addition, I realize that many families have concerns about the changing immigration laws and policies. I want to reaffirm our deep commitment to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for every student regardless of immigration status, race, religion, background or other characteristics. All students deserve the opportunity to learn without fear and thrive at the York Academy.

Please know that we do not collect or have information on file about the immigration status of any of our students or families. We will continue to follow current safety protocols, school policies, and guidance from state and federal laws regarding who has access to student documents and who is permitted to contact students at school. In addition, students are only dismissed to authorized parents/guardians. I encourage you to check your settings in Sapphire

I am honored to serve such a diverse school community. We are united in our responsibility to protect the rights, dignity and safety of every child. If you or your child needs assistance, please contact their principal or school counselor.

It's National School Counseling Week and I would like to thank our dedicated team of professionals for the many ways they impact students' lives. Mrs. Cunningham, Ms. D'Angelo, Mrs. Bonderowitz, and Ms. Reid work behind the scenes to support students, provide guidance and help them succeed. They are valued members of our team!

We're also halfway through the third quarter. Watch for Progress Reports on Friday afternoon.

New Dishwasher to Make Environmental Impact

We are thrilled to announce the installation of a brand-new dishwasher at the Lower School! This is a landmark achievement, as it marks the first dishwasher ever for our school. The completion of this project is an exciting step forward for York Academy Regional Charter School, and the positive impact it will have is immense.

By using this dishwasher and transitioning to reusable trays, we are saving over 600 foam trays from being discarded into landfills every single day. This significant reduction in waste is a meaningful step toward a more sustainable future. The students have shared their enthusiasm for the new trays, and their excitement reinforces the importance of this initiative.

A huge shoutout goes to our incredible kitchen staff, who have quickly adapted to the new equipment and procedures for cleaning the trays. Their hard work and dedication are truly commendable. Our custodial staff has also benefited from this change, as the reduction in trash bags has made their workload more manageable. Additionally, our teachers and instructional assistants have done an outstanding job ensuring a smooth transition, showcasing the strength of our school community.

While the new dishwasher doesn’t necessarily make the task of feeding our students easier, the environmental benefits far outweigh the extra effort. It takes a committed team to implement meaningful changes, and I couldn’t be prouder of our York Academy family for coming together to make this happen.

This project demonstrates that when we work together, we can achieve remarkable things. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this effort. Together, we are making a positive impact on our school and the environment!

Eat well and be healthy,

Ms. Gina, Food Services Director
