Get the Lowdown with Dr. Lowe

York Academy Families:

We are fortunate to have such dedicated members of our Board of Trustees. As School Board Recognition Month comes to a close, I’d like to thank them for their time, commitment and leadership. They work to strengthen our school community, and always put our students first. I applaud each of them. The members are:

Ellen Johnson, President

Dennis Baughman,

Vice-President

Paula Gilbert, Secretary

Edward Bird, Treasurer

Patrick Ball

Sarah Dayes

Shane Moore

Carrie McCullough

We are accepting applications for the 2025-26 school year from February 1 - March 31 for students entering K-9th grade. Information Sessions are scheduled for interested families. I’m proud of the many ways we do things differently at the York Academy, and I encourage you to tell your friends and family why we're the best school in town! Get the details.

Lastly, it's National School Choice Week, which celebrates parents' rights to choose the best school for their child. I believe that every child deserves a quality education that empowers them to thrive and succeed, and I thank you for choosing the York Academy to do just that.

Enjoy the evening,

Dr. Lowe

Mrs. Fedorko, Mr. Brown and the members of National Honor Society are excited to welcome you to join us for "Parents' Night Out" on February 7! We would love to spend the evening with your children while you go to dinner, catch a movie or just relax at home. Click here to register.

"Parents' Night Out" events are fundraisers for the Upper School NAHS spring field trip. Last year, the students were able to spend two days exploring Pittsburgh! We visited the University of Pittsburgh, The Andy Warhol Museum and even caught a Pirates game! Thank you for your support!

Meet Our Knight Staff Superstar

Congrats to Emily Reel, English Language Learner Teacher, on being our Knight Staff Superstar! She was nominated for embodying the "caring" IB Attribute by former English Language Development IA, Yarelis Acosta.

"I would like to take a moment to highlight the exceptional qualities of Ms. Reel," said Mrs. Acosta. "She is an incredibly caring and compassionate teacher, consistently going above and beyond to ensure the success and well-being of her students - especially those in the ESL Program. Ms. Reel's dedication is evident through the countless hours she devotes both before and after school to support her students' learning," she said. "In addition, Ms. Reel embodies the values of the IB Attributes in every way, demonstrating patience, empathy and commitment to each student's growth. If I could nominate her for every IB Attribute, I would enthusiastically do so. She is an outstanding teacher!"

Thanks for making such a positive impact on your students, Ms. Reel. We are fortunate to have you as part of our school community!

It's Time for Valentine's Day Grams

The Lower School Valentine's Day Gram fundraiser is happening through February 7. Forms were sent home with students last week. You can also click here to view and print the form. Thanks for your support of our PTO!

Shape Bright Futures and Join Our Team

Purchase Tickets for "In the Heights"

Join our amazing students and Weary Arts Group for the Upper School Musical, "In the Heights!" Performances will be held on February 21, 22 and 23 at Waldon Performing Arts Center at York College.

Our students will transport you to Washington Heights during this rhythmically infectious musical. "In the Heights" tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

Purchase your tickets now and support our talented students!
