Get the Lowdown with Dr. Lowe

York Academy Families:

As I’ve been sharing, juniors and seniors in Mrs. Reed’s Diploma Programme (DP) Science classes have been on a tri-state quest to investigate the environmental changes that affect the Codorus Creek watershed and the greater Chesapeake Bay. This month, they worked to determine the health of our waterways and created school-based action plans that will positively impact school grounds and make them greener. Students have had meaningful field experiences and taken water samples at Port Isabel, VA in the Tangier Sound, at Codorus State Park, at the Philip Merrill Environmental Center in Annapolis, MD and from the Codorus Creek near the Upper School.

York Academy is hosting the final community event to close out York's 22nd Annual Watershed Week tomorrow from 3- 5 p.m. on the Upper School patio! Come celebrate them and find out about their incredible field experiences and impressive school-based action plans. There will also be interactive displays provided by the Watershed Alliance of York and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay.

I’m extremely proud of our students for making an impact through environmental stewardship as global citizens. Many thanks to Mrs. Reed for spearheading such tremendous opportunities for them.

Enjoy the evening,

Dr. Lowe

Lower School Students to Celebrate Cultural Pride Tomorrow

Lower School students are invited to participate in a World Tourism Celebration and Cultural Drip Day tomorrow! The goal is for students to showcase their cultural pride through traditional clothing, accessories or other cultural symbols.

Please note that students are still required to follow the dress code by wearing uniform bottoms and footwear. Let’s come together to share and honor the richness of our cultures!

Picture Day is Happening Next Week

Picture Day is coming up on Tuesday, October 1 (K-12). Students may dress up! As a reminder, no leggings, ripped pants, spaghetti straps, crop tops, hats, crocs or any inappropriate clothing are permitted. Due to the background color, Josten’s encourages students not to wear green.

Parents’ Night Out

Mrs. Fedorko, Mr. Brown and the members of our National Honor Society (NHS) are hosting Parents' Night Out on Friday, October 4 from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Upper School! York Academy students in grades K-6 and their siblings, friends and neighbors are invited (must be in kindergarten or older). Members of the NHS would love to spend the evening with your children while you go to dinner, catch a movie, or just chill peacefully on your couch. Click here to learn more and sign up. Proceeds will support the Upper School NHS Spring field trip.
