February is Black History Month, a time to honor the achievements, contributions, and resilience of Black individuals throughout history. At the York Academy, we are proud to celebrate this important month with meaningful student projects and displays that highlight Black leaders, culture and history.
Be sure to check out the incredible work our Lower School students have created, including:
- ABC Alphabet Display – Showcasing influential Black figures for each letter of the alphabet
- Kendrick Lamar Poster – Exploring his impact on music, culture, and activism
- Culinary Figures Exhibit – Highlighting Black chefs and food innovators who have shaped culinary history
- 6th Grade Histograms – Visual data representations analyzing historical and cultural contributions
- Black History Month Mosaic – A collaborative artwork celebrating the resilience and achievements of Black individuals
-
Quilt Square Mural – Murals inspired by Bisa Butler and Reggie Laurent created by students in grades 2 - 6 to be hung in the Lower School (top and bottom pictures above)
At the Upper School, Ms. Reid has been sending Black History Month trivia questions to the students every day. What a terrific way to expand their knowledge about influential Black leaders!
Plus, the Upper School Multicultural Appreciation Club (M.A.C.) is hosting their "Food for Your Soul" event tomorrow night. All Upper School families are welcome!
