York Academy Families:

As I always say, we do things differently at the York Academy. Last week, it showed! Our students were featured in the media three times!

ABC27 aired this clip from the DP Science Exhibition event during Watershed Week.

I'm very proud of our students for their hard work, and I'd like to thank Mrs. Parks and Mrs. Reed for spearheading these tremendous opportunities for our students. It was an exciting week for the York Academy, and it's wonderful knowing that their efforts will make an impact. Stay tuned for updates on our DP students’ school-based projects to make our grounds greener.

Also, Student Led Conferences are coming up on Thursday, October 24 and Friday, October 25. Please see the article below and sign up for a time. As a reminder, school is closed on those days. The only time students will come to school is during their scheduled conference times. Please make childcare arrangements now.

In addition, it's National School Custodian Appreciation Day, and I'm grateful for our dedicated Facilities Team for keeping our schools clean and safe. They work very hard behind the scenes to handle numerous tasks, and they are always ready to lend a hand. Lastly, I'd like to congratulate the 21 students who were inducted into the National Honor Society and the 11 students who were inducted into the National Spanish Honor Society. Excellent work!

Parents' Night Out is Happening This Friday

Mrs. Fedorko, Mr. Brown and the members of our National Honor Society (NHS) are hosting Parents' Night Out this Friday (10/4) from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Upper School! York Academy students in grades K-6 and their siblings, friends and neighbors are invited (must be in kindergarten or older). Members of the NHS would love to spend the evening with your children while you go to dinner, catch a movie, or just chill peacefully on your couch. Click here to learn more and sign up. RSVP for the Sanchar and Metadidon Breakfast on Monday

Calling all students, families and staff in Sanchar and Metadidon! Join us for some food, fun and family time on Monday at the Upper School from 6:45 - 7:30 a.m.! You can park in the lot at Small's Field.

Students should wear orange (Sanchar) or gold (Metadidon) tops with uniform bottoms that day. Families - we'd love to see you decked out in House colors, too!

Don't Miss Our Trunk or Treat Reading Spooktacular

The House of Sanchar and the PTO are teaming up to host the fourth annual Trunk or Treat Reading Spooktacular next Wednesday (10/9) from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at the Upper School. There will be games, crafts, candy, food trucks and a free book giveaway! Families can also bring along a T-shirt or canvas tote and screen print their own design on it ($3).

In addition, candy, gift cards and other items are still needed. Please consider helping. Click here for details and sign up now. Items can be dropped off at either office through Tuesday (10/8). Thanks in advance!

Sign Up for Student-Led Conferences

Student-Led Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 24 and Friday, October 25. Signups are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note: Students will only come to school with their parents/guardians during their scheduled conference time. There will be no classes or transportation for students on October 24 or 25, and students will not come to school. Please make childcare plans now.

Lower School (K-6):

Haven’t signed up yet? Click here and the online system will walk you through the steps. Select the grade level and teacher for your student(s). You will be asked to select the event and enter your name and email. Next, the system will email you a link so you can select the day and time for their Student-Led Conference. You may add or change times through that link.

Each student MUST attend their scheduled conference with a parent/guardian. If you have any problems signing up, please reach out to your child’s teacher or call the office for assistance at (717) 801-3900.

Upper School (7-12):

All Upper School parents/guardians should sign up for one 30-minute slot through their child’s Canvas account. All the content areas will be reviewed during that time period. More information about signing up for Student-Led Conferences was emailed to parents/guardians separately. Support will also be available for Canvas, Sapphire, the After-Hours Program, and more! If you need assistance, please reach out to Mrs. Alvarnaz or Ms. Jones at (717) 900-5001.

Again, the only time students should come to school on October 24 and 25 is with their parents/guardians for their scheduled Student-Led Conference. School is closed and classes will not be held on those days.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Saborea

¡Feliz mes de la herencia hispana! Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

In honor and celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the National Spanish Honor Society is holding the 3rd annual Saborea. It will be held on Thursday, October 10 at the Upper School from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. From homemade appetizers to main courses and desserts, there will be plenty of Hispanic dishes to try. In addition, there will be dancing, dominoes and traditional arts/crafts of Hispanic culture. Please come!

PTO Updates

PTO Dress Down Day on Friday

The next PTO Dress Down Day is this Friday (10/4)! With a $1 donation, students and staff can dress casually (school-appropriate).

Fall Popcorn Loft Fundraiser

The PTO is holding a Popcorn Loft Fundraiser. A form was sent home with each child (click here to view it). Make sure to include your child's name on the order form and return it with payment (write checks to York Academy PTO) by Wednesday, October 9. To support our local businesses and the environment, please return any unwanted forms. You may pick up your order on Tuesday, October 29 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. inside the Lower School playground doors.

Next PTO Meeting

The next PTO Meeting is on Tuesday, October 15 at 6 p.m. in the Lower School Media Center/Library. Please join us and find out what exciting things are in the works. Everyone is welcome (K-12)!

Moe's Popup Fundraiser

How about a night off from cooking dinner while supporting one of your favorite organizations? Attention friends, family, neighbors and local Queso lovers! The PTO is hosting a Moe’s Popup Fundraiser on Friday, October 18.

These take-home Family Taco Kits will make your night easier! They will be ready to eat as soon as you get home. Plus, 25% of all the kits sold will be donated to the PTO. That’s $10.75 per kit!

Each Meal Kit feeds 4 – 6 people and costs $43 (+tax). They come with all the fixings to make up to 12 tacos. Choose from chicken, ground beef, ½ chicken and ½ ground beef (combo) or vegetarian. Check out the graphic to see all that's included.

Pick up your order on Friday, October 18 from 5:30 – 6 p.m. at the Lower School. Pull up to the table/van and share your name. They’ll bring your order right to you and you’ll be on your way!
Can’t make it? Order a KIT CREDIT! The York Academy PTO will still receive the $10.75 donation, and you can grab your kit wherever and whenever it works best for you.

Order Tickets for Our Upper School Fall Play

We are excited to announce that tickets are on sale for our upcoming production of "The Outsiders" at the York Academy Upper School! Join us for an unforgettable performance that brings S.E. Hinton’s classic novel to life on stage in the Black Box Theatre. The dates are:

Thursday, October 17 at 8 p.m.
Saturday, October 19 at 8 p.m.
Sunday, October 20 at 3 p.m.

Ticket prices are $3 for students, $5 for Seniors/Military and $8 for adults. Click here to purchase your tickets. Tickets can be purchased at the door (if available), but seats are limited. Please note that there is not a show on Friday night.

Notes from Our Nurses: Mobile Dentist Visit & Reminders

Here's some great news! A mobile dentist is coming to the York Academy! All students (K-12) are invited to sign up for an appointment. The dates are:

Thursday, November 14: Upper School
Monday, December 2: Lower School

Consent forms will be sent home with students in the coming weeks. Please complete the form and include all the requested information. You can also register online now.

Also, here are a few reminders to help our nurses take care of your children:

Please complete the permission form in Sapphire for all medications (age 6-12).
Pennsylvania requires medical and dental exams for all students' school health files in certain grade levels. They are:
Kindergarten: Dental and Physical Exam
Grades 3 and 7: Dental Exam
Grades 6 and 11: Physical Exam (with any immunization updates)

Please access your healthcare portal or contact your provider to obtain records for our school. Blank forms are available below and on our website. Look for Health Forms and Information.
