Get the Lowdown with Dr. Lowe

York Academy Families:

It’s National Principals Month and we're fortunate to have two strong, caring leaders at the York Academy. This week, I’d like to highlight Mr. Goodwin, Head of the Lower School.

Mr. Goodwin began his career as a second-grade teacher when our doors opened in 2011. As the Head of School, he leads the Lower School staff, students and families with a clear focus on our mission. Mr. Goodwin has proven to be unrelenting with his emphasis on student success and achievement. He is an excellent problem-solver and constantly works to improve processes and procedures that benefit our school community. Mr. Goodwin has a gift for connecting with children, and you can be sure he knows each student’s name. He is passionate about the York Academy and we are lucky to have him at the helm. When you see Mr. Goodwin next, please let him know that you appreciate his hard work.

In addition, York Academy students are doing wonderful things in the community! Some of our Upper School students attended the Liberty Tree Planting Ceremony and others welcomed our new neighbors. Watch for details about the impressive Kindness Corner that students are painting near the Upper School and to learn about a student artist's outstanding accolade.

Enjoy the evening,

Dr. Lowe

Student-Led Conferences

Check out what's happening during Student-Led Conferences:

Lower School PTO Uniform Swap:

The PTO Uniform Swap room will be open at the Lower School. Head toward the outside gym entrance (glass doors) and go up the stairs. You’re welcome to bring gently used uniforms and swap them out for different sizes or just pick up some items at no cost.

Upper School Financial Aid Night:

The Upper School is hosting a Financial Aid event tomorrow night (10/24) from 5 – 7 p.m. Ed Lane, our Higher Education Access Partner from PHEAA, will be there to answer your questions.

Upper School Clothing Drive:

The House of Ganditor is holding a Clothing Drive. Bring your gently used clothing (of all kinds) and/or uniforms when you come. The clothing will be donated to a local shelter during Kindness Week.

As a reminder, students should only come to school with their parents/guardians during their scheduled conference time. There will be no classes or transportation for students tomorrow and Friday, and students will not come to school. You’ll be impressed to learn what they've accomplished. We hope you enjoy this time with them!

Important Lower School Drop-off Details from Mr. Goodwin

Each day, our cafeteria staff works very hard to prepare enjoyable free meals for all students. To make sure they can do their best work, there must be a clear time for breakfast to end and lunch preparations to begin. Breakfast service ends at 7:55 a.m. so students have time to get to class for their learning and morning routines.

As the days are becoming a bit colder, we’ve also been seeing more families utilizing the drop-off lane later than 8 a.m. That’s after all standard drop-off arrival is completed and does not allow time for students to have breakfast. Families who arrive late through the drop-off lane will be notified of the tardiness, and it will be added to the child’s attendance record.

Please plan accordingly to ensure that your child can eat breakfast and keep their attendance record in good standing. Enter through the playground doors or the drop-off lane from 7:30 – 7:55 a.m. If you arrive after 8 a.m., come to the office to sign your child in for the day. Thank you for your help and support!
