The Lowdown with Dr. Lowe
Hello York Academy Families:

Here are my weekly reminders and an update for you.

Please print out our Daily Screening Tool, keep it front and center on your fridge, and use it every morning. If your children say they have any of these symptoms, keep them home from school and contact our school nurses.

As with any vaccinations, if your child has received the COVID-19 vaccine, let our nurses know so that we can update our records. You can snap a picture with your phone and email it to the appropriate nurse (contact details above).

Also, every home in the U.S. is now eligible to order four completely free at-home COVID-19 tests. Orders are expected to ship by USPS in 7 - 12 days. Make sure to order your tests now so your family has them when you need them. If you currently need a COVID-19 test, please see these other resources for free testing locations.

Thanks for all you do and enjoy your evening,

Dr. Michael Lowe
Knight Staff Superstar: Miss Brianna Smith
Congrats to Upper School Instructional Assistant, Brianna Smith, for being our Knight Staff Superstar and embodying the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile attribute of being caring.

When we are caring, we show empathy, compassion and respect. We have a commitment to service, and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.

According to her nominee, Miss Smith showcases the IB attribute of being caring when she assists the students and her colleagues every school day. She is always enthusiastic about helping others, whether it's running extra copies to a teacher, covering classes, assisting with math assignments, or facilitating our after-school "What I Need" (WIN) program. She goes above and beyond expectations, and we are so appreciative of her commitment to service at our school.

Thank you for being an essential part of the team, Miss Smith. You make a difference, and you are truly valued!

Get Excited for the Kids Heart Challenge!
We have OFFICIALLY KICKED OFF our Kids Heart Challenge event, and we're so excited to promote healthy habits in school and at home. In order to beat last year's total, our goal is to raise $7,360. If you remember, Miss Kinard got blasted with silly string last year because we met our goal. This year, if we reach our $7,360 goal, Miss Kinard will invite the top fundraiser and top PRO point holder from each class to turn her into a human ice cream sundae! Please see the Homework with Heart graphic below to find out how to sign up. You can also click here to go directly to our school's Kids Heart Challenge page.
Keystone Kidspace to Host Kindergarten Event Next Week
Please check out this exciting FREE kindergarten event with Curious George at our neighbors, Keystone Kidspace on Wednesday, January 26! You can register here.

Haven't heard of or visited Keystone Kidspace yet? Click here to learn more about this special place where children are given permission to be creative, make a mess, fail and try again. They can discover what excites them and find others who share those same interests. Whether it's coding or cooking, woodworking or creative writing, your children will find it at Keystone Kidspace!
PTO Meeting: February 7
Make sure to save the date for the next PTO meeting! It will be held on Monday, February 7 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. in the Lower School Media Center (3rd floor).

Come learn what exciting things are being planned and get involved. Everyone is welcome and we'd love to see you!
Students Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Learning support students in grades 1-3 recently honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. They watched a video by Kid President and discussed how Dr. King changed the world.

Then, they brainstormed about how they could make an impact. The students wrote a sentence and drew a picture to go with their "dreams" for making the world a better place. As these students grow through our IB Programme, they will be offered many opportunities to choose actions and participate in service to see those dreams come true!
Admissions Information for the 2022-23 School Year
The York Academy will be accepting applications for students to be included in the 2022-2023 lottery from February 1 - March 30! The link to apply online will be posted on our website on February 1.

Attention Parents: Even if your children attend YARCS now and you'd like their sibling(s) to start school in August (ex. kindergarten), you must complete the online application for them. Make sure to apply from February 1 - March 30 so they will be included in the lottery. This is very important, so if you have questions, email Mrs. Albright at lalbright@yorkarcs.org or call (717) 801-3900.

Is your child on the 2021-22 waiting list? You will need to reapply for the 2022-23 school year so they will be included in the lottery. According to PA Charter School Law, applications are not permitted to roll over from year to year.

We'll be holding Admissions Information Sessions in February and March so families can learn about YARCS, the International Baccalaureate curriculum, student and parent expectations, and the admissions process. All sessions will be held at the Lower School (gym). Families do not need to RSVP and children are welcome. The presentations will begin promptly at the times listed below, and tours of the Lower School will be available following the presentation. Masks are required.

• Tuesday, February 15 from 6 - 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday, February 26 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, March 9 from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

The lottery for the 2022-23 school year will be held on Monday, April 4.

If you have any questions, check out our Admissions page or contact us at info@yorkarcs.org.

Please share this information with your friends and family, and spread the good word about our stellar school!
