Get the Lowdown with Dr. Lowe

York Academy Families:

Thanks to everyone who came to our Back to School Nights. It's always wonderful to see you. I have two things to share.

The York Academy is hiring. If you are looking for a job or know someone who is, click here to learn more. Two of our greatest needs are a Kitchen Manager at the Upper School (full time) and a Kitchen Assistant (part time). Be part of the best team in town!

In addition, two important deadlines are coming up this Friday (8/30). Make sure to complete the Student Information Form and sign up for a Lower School Car Pickup Pass by Friday (details below).

Enjoy the evening,

Dr. Lowe

Tomorrow: Instrument Petting Zoo for Beginning Musicians

Is your child in 4th or 5th grade and interested in playing an instrument? Don't miss our Instrument Petting Zoo tomorrow (8/29) from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the Lower School Multipurpose Room. (Use the side door on Beaver Street.) There will be a short presentation at 6:45 p.m.

Your child will get to see, hold and try the instruments we offer, and meet our incredible Band & Orchestra Director, Mr. Michael. Already have an instrument? Bring it along so he can take a look.

Parents will be able to meet with an individual from Menchey Music Service (our preferred rental service) to find out about rental costs and more. Your child will LOVE being part of our fun, progressive music program!

Meet Our Knight Staff Superstar: Kathryn Marks

Congrats to Upper School Math Teacher, Mrs. Kathryn Marks on being our Knight Staff Superstar! She was nominated by Ms. Browe (Upper School Math Teacher) for embodying the International Baccalaureate learner profile attribute of being an inquirer.

"Mrs. Marks is new to York Academy, but it is clear that she is "curious" and wants to implement best research practices for math instruction," said Ms. Browe. "She is enthusiastic about supporting her students and you can tell that she loves education and learning. Mrs. Marks actively engages in our professional development topics and asks questions to better herself as a math teacher. It's clear that she wants to continue to grow as a lifelong learner in her profession."

Keep following your curiosity and sharing your love of learning with your students, Mrs. Marks. We're thrilled to have you on our team!

Important Reminder from the Upper School Dean's Desk

As you know, the York Academy Dress Code Policy requires all students to wear the school uniform and keep their shirts tucked in.

When Upper School students return from the long weekend on Tuesday (9/3), a new policy will be in place to ensure compliance with our Dress Code Policy.

  • If a staff member asks a student to tuck in their shirt for any reason, they will receive a Lunch Detention.
  • After a maximum of three Lunch Detentions, a student will receive After School Detention.
  • If the behavior continues, and a student accumulates three After School Detentions, the consequence will escalate to In School Suspension.

This information has been shared directly with students, but we need our parents to help to reinforce the importance of adhering to the Dress Code. If you’re an Upper School parent, please talk with your student(s) before they return to school next Tuesday (9/3).

Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a positive and productive learning environment. Let’s keep being game changers, Knights!
