Spotlight on
Patricia Blackmon
|
Patricia Blackmon is the S. Carolina State Director
and the 2016 Rescuer of the Year
Patricia and her Pack:
6 Yorkies, 2 Doxies, 4 Chihuahuas and 3 Poodles
She tells us about how she came to volunteer for YTNR:
I live in Florence, S.C. right where I 20 and I 95 cross. That's why I have been so busy for many years doing transports for several different rescue groups. I met so many new people who love to help animals get out of shelters and into homes in the north. Also, rescue groups will put together a transport for a dog to get from their foster homes to their new forever homes north of South Carolina.
I got into doing this after my husband died. I was lost with way too much time in my day with nobody to do things for or with. I got on the internet and found YTNR and decided to volunteer. I then met Pat Ferkin and really got busy picking up and fostering new Yorkie rescues. Before she died, she recommended me to take her place. I was thrilled to do that.
Now I have met people all over the state who help me get Yorkies from shelters and when people have to surrender their fur babies due to their health or life changes. I love fostering the Yorkies and getting them accustomed to being away from their former life. I have also taken in many puppy mill dogs from Georgia with the help of other rescue groups.
I love having the various dogs to care for and meeting new people who share my interest.
I taught elementary music most of my teaching career. I received my Master's and the 30 hours above in the 80's.
My interests include crocheting, knitting, machine embroidering, and now caring for rescue dogs. My vet's office feels like my second home. I'm there at least one day a week. Most of my rescue friends are also frequent visitors to their vet offices. It's a great place to see friends and catch up on our latest rescues. My life is all about the dogs now.

Looking for a Furever Home
|
HI EVERYONE, JACK HERE!!
(fostered in Northern California)
Little Jack is still looking for his forever home. He needs a loving home where he has a calm dog buddy and warm lap to rest in. Jack has to be fed his regular food with no people food or he gets an upset stomach. He is 5 lbs and 10 years old
Jack wants you to know that he is a curious little fellow and loves to look out the window on
car rides. He also follows his foster mom around all the time. Jack is on special food as he can NEVER eat people food and even some dog foods make him ill. He also has a collapsing trachea but is managed beautifully by cough medicine. He likes other doggies but prefers his humans. His perfect home would be no small children, no large dogs and a wonderful mommy or daddy that can spend every day with him. Jack wants to know "Who will love ME"?
If you want to fall in love, go to our website @ www.yorkierescue.com and fill out an application with Jack's name on it. His foster mommy will call you.

In Loving Memory

A Loan From God Author Unknown
God promised at the birth of time,
A special friend to give,
His time on earth is short, He said,
So love him while he lives.
It may be for eight or ten years,
Or only two or three,
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
A wagging tail and cold wet nose,
And silken velvet ears,
A heart as big as all outdoors,
To love you through the years.
His puppy ways will gladden you,
And antics bring a smile,
As guardian or friend he will,
Be loyal all the while.
He'll bring his charms to grace your life,
And though his stay be brief,
When he's gone the memories,
Are solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return,
But lessons only a dog can teach,
I want you each to learn.
I've looked the whole world over,
In search of guardians true,
And from the folk that crowd life's land,
I have chosen you.
Whatever love you give to him,
Returns in triple measure,
Follow his lead and gain a life,
Brim full of simple pleasures.
Enjoy each day as it comes,
Allow your heart to guide,
Be loyal and steadfast in love,
As the dog there by your side.
Now will you give him all your love,
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call,
To take him back again?
I fancy each of us would say,
Dear Lord, thy will be done,
For all the joys this dog shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known,
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him,
Much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
And try to understand.
If by our love we've managed,
God's wishes to achieve,
In memory of him that we have loved,
And to help us while we grieve;
When our faithful bundle departs,
This earthly world of strife,
We'll get yet another pup,
And love him all his life.

"It is eerily terrifying that there is no sound when a heart breaks. Car accidents end with a bang, falling ends with a thud, even writing makes the scratching sound of pencil against paper. But the sound of a heart breaking is completely silent. Almost as though no one, not even the universe itself could create a sound for such devastation. Almost as though silence is the only way the universe could pay its respect to the sound of a heart falling apart."- Nikita Gill, The Sound of Heartbreak

Neeko's Joke
|
~ A preacher visits an elderly woman
from his congregation. As he sits on the couch he notices a large bowl of peanuts on the coffee table. "Mind if I have a few?" he asks.
"No, not at all!" the woman replied.
They chat for an hour and as the preacher stands to leave, he realizes that instead of eating just a few peanuts, he emptied most of the bowl.
"I'm terribly sorry for eating all your peanuts, I really just meant to eat a few."
"Oh, that's all right," the woman says. "Ever since I lost my teeth all I can do is suck the chocolate off them."
Meee found my furever home on April 3rd 2010 ♥
Thank you, YTNR for rescuing Meee and
making it possible for my dreams to come true.
Will be furever grateful ♥
Love and Smooches,
Neeko :o)
