Twenty One Years Of Love by MaryElizabeth Dugmore

This year YTNR turned 21, with many happy, sweet and sad moments, milestones and celebrations. Mostly celebrating the life of the little dogs we've been able to save, and the amazing people who made it possible.
As the year draws to an end, I would like to thank our Board, our fosters and volunteers, and those who have supported us and lobbied for support amongst their friends and families. I would like to thank those who made donations on a monthly, occasional or one-time basis, those who fielded donations in honor of those they loved - both human and animal - and those who turned to social media to make us the beneficiary of their birthday or other special occasion. I also want to thank those who made and sold crafts and other articles, sold entertainment books, tended fairs to raise money, as well as those who collected cans to recycle for money, or donated your loose change. And I would like to thank those who worked in silence to keep the organization afloat, LifeLine for Paws who assisted us in surgeries, and the ones I forgot to mention by name or group. Together you make YTNR's work for underserved dogs, possible - and you help provide homes for Yorkies, and occasionally another breed. Together we are YTNR - an astounding group of animal lovers, who come with a blend of cheerfulness, enthusiasm, collaborative spirit, amazing organizational skills, work ethic, kindness and resilience.
Speaking of homes - thank you so much to all who've adopted Yorkies over the past year, the past 21 years, and forever - from us, or from another rescue. You gave second chances - you created happiness and family - because you had, and have, love in your heart. You made, and still make, a little Yorkie (or another animal's) world go round and round.
We are also thankful for the families who have trusted us to surrender their loved Yorkie to us, due to unforeseen or difficult circumstances. We acknowledge the sadness that surrounds your decision, and the heartbreak that comes with it. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the faith you had in our organization to allow us to take the best care and find the most loving home for your beloved little one.

During 2018, 53 dogs were surrendered to YTNR. They came from private citizens, shelters, as strays, and some after their owners went into care facilities, or died. We were able to adopt out 49, which included 13 dogs surrendered in 2017, and 2 who have waited since 2016. They all are memorable, and they all touched our hearts. Some came in such horrific shape, like little Bette in Tennessee, who was fully matted over, with a tumor on her belly extending almost to the ground. Others with such sadness, like little Charlie Brown, who's daddy, a supporter of YTNR, died. Charlie Brown was initially surrendered to a shelter, before being tracked down by YTNR, and rescued.

Then there were ones who came with such love, like LeeLee. Her 11-year-old initial mommy and loving family still keeps in contact, and her second devoted mommy still keeps up with her too. Both families still care very much for their little chocolate bundle or energy, whom they surrendered in order to give her the best chance to succeed.

YTNR also had the chance to celebrate life, as little Suzanne, who was surrendered by a shelter as Pawspice, received a new lease on life. She now has her own family who adores her and cherishes her resilience and love for life.
At YTNR we are thankful for every little life saved, and thankful for all of you who make it possible. Together we can all continue to grow a kinder and more caring world and sow the seeds of happiness as we walk alongside our rescues and our other animals.
Saving lives are both challenging and rewarding, but always an honor. Working with such a dedicated group of people is both humbling and heartwarming, and an experience unrivaled. Thank you for your commitment to YTNR. Thank you for putting your heart into this great cause. Thank you for making animal welfare a priority, for helping to end suffering, and for being life savers.
Take care, celebrate well during the holidays, and stay safe. We'd love to have you along for the journey next year, and in the years to come. There are more Yorkies in need to come our way, more medical concerns to address for doggies who would otherwise not have the opportunity of health or relief from pain, and more amazing animals ready to blossom with love and care. Thank you for making dreams come true.

Spotlight on Jackie Wolfe

MEET JACKIE WOLFE, STATE DIRECTOR FOR ILLINOIS!
I am an active YTNR volunteer having joined the organization over 12 years ago. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have found such a wonderful organization that has allowed me to follow my passion rescuing and fostering dogs. I have been lucky enough to have fostered close to 100 dogs in my home, sometimes for only a day and sometimes for several months. A few of them came to me and it was clear they were never intended to leave. I knew and they knew. It was not a question. People often say "Oh, I could never foster. I would want to keep them all. I could never let them go because it would break my heart." I tell people you will love them all but that is not the task we have signed up for. It is much like raising a child. We nurture them, heal them when they are hurt, teach them the rules of our society, watch them blossom and then it is time to let them go. So it is with fostering a dog. The reward is knowing you have been a part of their journey and they could never have had the journey without you. What a wonderful way to follow your passion and give back. Is it hard work, sometimes. Is it heartbreaking, sometimes. Is it joyful, most times. Is it worthwhile and does it make a difference, always.
Joining this wonderful organization has provided me the opportunity to make friends and get to know amazing people I would never have had the fortune of meeting otherwise. The people in YTNR work together as a team and we all have an important part to contribute from fostering, transporting, fundraising, bookkeeping, crafting, organizing, recruiting, to making sure all of our dogs are microchipped. When the need arises, the right person steps up to make it happen and get it done. What could be better than that?
My latest example of the wonderful things about YTNR involve the sweet, beautiful little foster dog, who came to me 2 days ago. Her name is Chloe; some of you may have seen her picture. She is about the most perfect dog I have ever fostered. It is fitting that she came this month which happens to be National Pet Diabetes Month. Chloe developed diabetes due to being overfed and overweight. She gets 2 shots a day, 12 hours apart. No big deal. That's it. After she eats she comes to you and turns her back to make it easier to give the shot. It takes 2 seconds. She doesn't even flinch. She is doing so well because of the love, care and healing given to her by her first foster mother, Barbara Buechele. She is amazing! I had known about the wonderful things Barb has done for our sick little dogs but had no idea how kind, loving, and expert she is until I talked with her about little Chloe. It is because of her that Chloe not only survived but is now thriving. I am very thankful to have met her. It lifts my spirits just knowing that there are such giving people out there. And then there is Eva Ortiz. Eva is also a volunteer with YTNR and I had heard that she too gives selflessly of her time to transport our little fosters when a need arises. She gave up her vacation this week to fly Chloe from Tennessee to Illinois requiring two days of travel. Again, I was amazed at her spirit of giving and her loving attitude. Little Chloe could never have come up here without Eva's willingness to give up her vacation. What kind of people do this? Wonderful people. I am thankful to have had a chance to meet her too.
So, by making a decision to foster Chloe I have met 2 fantastic women as well as a super cute, sweet little dog. I now have the opportunity to be a part of her journey. What could be more rewarding? I am truly thankful to have YTNR in my life. God bless you all.

Open letter to our wonderful supporters
|
As you celebrate Hanukkah, Solstice, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or just life in general, we ask that you keep the YTNR foster dogs in your thoughts during the holidays. It warmed our hearts that we were able to place 49 little ones in forever-homes during 2018. We are filled with hope that, in the near future, we will be able to find lifelong matches for the ones still in our care.
Please consider adding YTNR to your gift list this year and lend a helping hand in the care of the doggies still needing rehoming. Or consider paying it forward to the new rescues we'll be taking in during 2019. As our sponsors, you make difficult times manageable, and help us comfort and heal abandoned, ill, and scared little dogs, as well as help place loved little ones needing a second chance. Let's leave no Yorkie behind!
Our foster providers give their hearts and homes to provide animals with options, and our donors allow us the privilege to rescue them. Together we shape care for the vulnerable and the underserved Yorkies.

Outstanding Foster Parent of the Year - Corrine Ellison
|
Announcing the new and very well deserved Award
Once in a while you meet someone truly amazing. At Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue (YTNR) we all met her: Corrine Ellison.
Corrine grew up with big dogs, but one day in the mid 1980's her life changed. She fell in love with a friend's little bundle of Yorkie fur. This love at first sight, led to a love for the breed, and to becoming a champion for the unfortunate.
Over the past 18 years Corrine has fostered over 250 Yorkies for YTNR - where she specializes in special needs dogs. Our own Wonder Woman also keeps up on general intake and adoption registration, our acuity model, and manages volunteers across many states, coordinating services for our rescues. She's on our Board and our Vice President of Rescue Operations.
Corrine is assertive in seeking care for our foster dogs. With a heart of gold, she has empathy for those who surrender, who foster, and who adopt. She's a guiding beacon to us all - always available to help us through difficult circumstances and during periods of having to make difficult decisions, even during periods of dealing with hardship and heartbreak in her own life.
She has the gift of remaining positive, supportive, and passionate, and to cultivate these characteristics in others around her. She believes in herself, in her fellow human beings, and in rescue - and always emphasizes teamwork. She's the first to express gratitude for what others do, and the last to take the honor for herself.
YTNR recognizes her amazing contribution with our new Outstanding Foster Parent of the Year award for 2018. We thank Corrine for working hard for our rescues, for cultivating teamwork and community, for pushing us all to learn, grow and develop, in the process of saving Yorkies.
Corrine, we are blessed to have you on our Yorkies' side!

Dugmore Rescuer of the Year ~
Marge Williams
|
Marge has been a volunteer with YTNR for over 10 years. She has fostered over 100 of our little rescue babies. There was never a time that Marge said no. She has always gone the extra mile. She will take into her home the weakest and the least adoptable. In fact, right now she has a Pawspice little guy, Lou who has a very bad heart condition, and is not adoptable, and a little guy Paddywak who will never get adopted. He and Lou had been debarked and was used for breeding. In addition, she has two of her own dogs one, Scooter was adopted from YTNR. Presently she is temporarily fostering a little dog that will be going into surgery on Monday and will keep her until she heals and then Bella will go back to her original foster, Susan who is here today.
Marge has not only fostered these little ones in her home, and sometimes it could be over a year before the right family came along, but she has also traveled many miles in helping to transport them from a shelter, or from her home to their new home.
YTNR is very grateful for all the wonderful work Marge has done and is still doing. We could not do this without her.
So, in gratitude, we would like to present Marge Williams with
YTNR's Rescuer of the Year 2018 award.

YTNR WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVA ORTIZ FOR ALL THAT SHE DOES FOR YTNR
WHEN WE HAVE A LITTLE RESCUE THAT DESPERATELY NEEDS HELP AND NEED TO GET FROM ONE STATE TO ANOTHER, EVA NEVER SAYS NO, SHE GIVES UP A DAY OR TWO OFF FROM WORK AND WILL FLY THIS LITTLE BABY TO WHERE IT HAS TO GO FOR HELP.
IN FACT, EVA WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN SAVING THE LIFE OF ONE LITTLE GUY, NAMED PEANUT WHO WAS IN VERY BAD SHAPE AND WHEN EVA MET ME AT THE BAGGAGE CLAIM, LITTLE PEANUT HAD SLIPPED INTO A COMA. HE WAS ONE OF OUR LIVER SHUNT BABIES AND WITHOUT EVA TRANSPORTING HIM TO ME, HE WOULD NOT HAVE SURVIVED. THIS IS ONE OF THE MANY LITTLE YORKIES THAT EVA HAS HELPED SAVE BY TRANSPORTING.
SO, THANK YOU EVA FOR ALL YOU DO. IT IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

Looking for a Furever Home

Bach is waiting for his Furever home
Hi there. My name is Bach. I was found on the street and taken to a shelter where the nice people there took good care of me for a couple of weeks. When my owner was found and didn't want me anymore, the nice people called Yorkie Rescue and my foster parents came to get me. Everyone at the shelter told me how much they loved me and wished me well as I left for my new life. Once I got to my foster home I greeted my fur siblings with a tail wag and the humans with kisses. You see, I am a very agreeable fellow who is not aggressive in the least nor fearful. I am going outside in the fenced yard with my fur sibs and have been doing my business outside. My foster family has a bin of toys and I am in Heaven! I LOVE toys! I am playing with the other fur sibs in my foster home too. I am quiet in the car and so far haven't barked a lot. Like I said, I am a very agreeable fellow.
My foster mom thinks I am really an Australian Terrier, quite exotic if I say so myself. All of my papers say I am a Yorkie and I might have some of that but...who cares anyway? Either way I am adorable, or so I have been told. I weigh about 8 pounds and am 3 three years old. I am current on all of my shots, neutered and will be getting a dental soon. I am looking for a family with a stay at home parent, a fenced yard and would be fine with another small dog and children over age 7 years. I do not like crates unless they are left open for me to sleep in. If you think I am your boy, please put my name on your adoption application @

Hi Folks, I'm Jacob - or Jake to my pals. I'm a yorkie dude who's mommy is real sick so she decided the best thing for me is to find a great new home where the humans there can take good care of me like I deserve. I'm a healthy ( and chubby) 12 pounds. I should really do something about these couple of extra pounds, so a yard or dog buddy would be awesome to help me exercise a bit more. I do love my food! I just had a dental cleaning and I'm all up to date on my shots. I'm 11 years old and my Vet says I'm in great shape. I am docile, loving and adore being on your lap or feet.
