You Are Never Too Old!
Many of our devotional readers are retired or near retirement and are enjoying “the golden years.” Many members of the McCurdy Ministries Board of Trustees and McCurdy Ministries Foundation Board are in this category. Thus, the question arises, “Why are they (or we) still serving the Lord in these various capacities?”
Volumes of senior believers are serving God in similar fashion in their local churches. The question remains, “Why?” Have they (or we) not done enough for the Lord during a lifetime of service. I have asked myself this question on various occasions. Then I am reminded that my Old Testament hero, Moses, was 80 years old when God called him to lead a million Israelites out of bondage in Egypt.
What? You have got to be kidding. His back probably ached when he got out of his tent each morning. His knees could have used replacements. His shoulder talked to him due to 80 years of use. And yet, here he is answering God’s call (although reluctantly at first).
His assistant, Caleb, at age 85, was still ready to acquire land that the Israelites were claiming. In Joshua 14:10-11 he said, “So here I am today, 85 years old. I am still as strong as the day Moses sent me out. I am just as vigorous to go out to battle as I was then.”
For the younger set of believers who read the devotionals, the challenge might be: “Live a lifestyle that allows one to respond to God’s call to service whenever that occurs - young, middle-aged, or “mature.” How awesome to be able to say with Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.” Or like Isaiah in Isaish 6:8, “And then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Who shall I send. And who will go for me?’ And I said, ‘Here am I, send me.’” Blessings!!! YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD!
