2024 NYS Tourism Excellence Awards deadline has been extended to Friday, April 19


Based on requests from numerous members who need additional time to gather nomination documentation, the Tourism Excellence Awards Committee has extended the deadline to nominate for the 2024 NYS Tourism Excellence Awards to April 19, 2024.


If you have any questions about the nomination process, please refer to the Tourism Excellence Awards FAQ page or contact Rachele Markle.


Mark Your Calendars: The 2024 NYS Tourism Excellence Awards Ceremony will be held in Saratoga Springs at the 2024 NYSTIA Annual Meeting, held September 11-13.

  • Governor Hochul delivered her third State of the State address on Tuesday, January 9, at 1:00 PM ET. Read the press release and watch the address. Yesterday, Governor Hochul announced the highlights from the Fiscal Year 2024 Budget. You can read the full press release here. Stay tuned for more updates in next week's newsletter.
  • Registration for U.S. Travel's Destination Capitol Hill (DCH) is now open. Join 300+ industry leaders in Washington, D.C. to advance pro-travel policies and further emphasize travel as essential to every industry, community, and district across the U.S. using our powerful collective voice.
  • U.S. Travel released an eye-opening study revealing that the U.S. ranks 17th out of 18 countries in terms of global competitiveness. The slow visa wait times and inefficient aviation security screening predict spending losses in the billions. To highlight the importance of finding solutions, you can use their social media toolkit to amplify the report's findings, attend Destination Capitol Hill, and register for their semi-annual forecast webinar with Tourism Economics on January 17.
  • Governor Hochul announced that New York State has been awarded $15 million in federal funding for Electric Vehicle charging. The U.S. Department of Transportation grant will improve access to charging infrastructure in small to medium cities and tourist destinations including state parks and hotels.

Greek Peek Celebrates 65 Years

On January 11, 1958, Greek Peak officially opened the mountain for skiing. Boasting four trails and two short rope tows, guests could ski all day for just $7. Skiers enjoyed picnic lunches in the A-frame lodge and warmed up cold fingers and toes around a crackling fireplace.
