Our NAHB Student Chapter Builds a Brighter Future for Local Trade Students
the creation of our new
NAHB Student Chapter
above is our honorary first member Julie Clemons. She is a senior high-school student attending the Capital Area Career Center (CACC) and her key areas of academic study are the building trades. Julie is an awesome young woman and we hope that each of our members have the opportunity to meet her in the coming months.
SAHBA member CACC co-founded the student chapter with our association as the official faculty adviser. CACC Student Recruiter and Business Liaison Rob Ferriell has been working closely with us on chapter activities, including a recent SAHBA visit with CACC students to discuss the chapter's membership benefits. As a result, we have 35 new student members and the numbers will continue to grow as we support our local young trade professionals in their educational pursuits. "Everyone is excited about the potential of this joint initiative," said Rob. "We are really looking forward to helping co-educate the next generation of leaders in the building industry."
We can't do it alone! We need YOU to be a part of our efforts to encourage our student members to pursue local trade professional opportunities through networking, mentoring/interning and other educational-development partnerships. A great way to become involved is to be a speaker for our once-a-month "Trade 101" presentations to the students attending CACC. Pick a morning or afternoon class presentation to share highlights of your career field and a "day in the life" story about working your job -- whether it's banking, construction or HVAC. The door is wide open for educating these young future trade professionals. Our goal is to schedule the ongoing presentations for the first Friday of each month. Please contact Lee-Ann to learn more and sign up today.
